I have an interview next week and want to vet the new law firm with questions to determine if there’s a good work-life balance, respect for how work is delegated (i.e., attorneys are not routinely asked to do obvious paralegal work), and what overall systems/structures are in place to make it a functional/successful environment. What sorts of questions do you think would get this info and also cut through the usual bs of “we’re a family here” when in reality no one talks to each other?

Ask: 1. What a typical day or week look like for a colleague in this role? (This should give you indications to what others are doing in the company and how much work they do)
What do you see me achieving at 3 months, 6 months, and 12 mark (I.e. how many cases you want me to work)? (This should tell you the level of work expected, in the case it was very high, then they expect you to work more than working hours)

These questions will also be taken very positively as they show your interest in the role and knowing what you are going to aim for.

Good luck mate 👍🏼

Looking for guidance. I’ve been passively applying to Director roles since January, and actively for 2 weeks now. I’ve gotten one call for a position I didn’t apply to and no other response. Is there something I should be doing to get more traction?

Round or exact numbers on banners/LPs? I was curious about this since in negotiations for example or pricing it's better to have the exact number. But if you have a case study, for example, is it better to say "Client X increased their revenue to 1,000,000 ARR" instead of "Client X increased their revenue to 987,500 ARR" ? Anyone has seen any impact on conversion rates?

My organization absorbed another and the former deputy PM became a branch head - a demotion. For org was more focused on tech dev and not delivering a product on a sked. New org is very focused on that. He is not a driving leader, but is the only one with the tech knowledge needed. He is retirement eligible. He has no heir apparent - previous org didn’t plan that way. If I move him under someone who is a driver - he retires and I lose the knowledge. If I don’t, we may not meet schedules. Advice?

Billable hour question: is anyone else just completely incapable of keeping up with your time? Luckily most clients I work for are flat fee/percentage based but I still feel like a failure for not being able to do this thing that seemingly every other lawyer can do. Any tips?

Is it normal to be nervous while working at a startup? This is my third startup and a month in I’m finding myself a bit anxious. I was laid off after my last company was acquired, and this company is an entirely new role and industry for me that is not Saas. I don’t know our financials exactly but it seems like we are hemorrhaging money in several areas. My managing director has also been over several past startups that have ALL failed or filed bankruptcy. Am I paranoid or justified?

Hello, any advise on how to handle a past job situation about 5 years ago, that I quit without 2 week notice,? I started in June and lasted 3 months with a solo attorney who’s behaviour was unacceptable, I learned that I was his 8th paralegal and soon I learned why. I demanded to be talked as a human and after another incident I quit the same day. Recently got called for an interview for strategy/ operations role by a Faang company. I had my first screening call with the hiring manager, mostly all behavioral questions so hard to tell the result. The one area I felt I could probably brush up on is program management as my current industry is Pharma and tech industries are different. So any advice on program management interview guidance would be helpful. I have 18 yoe but still quite stressed about it.

So I'm interviewing, have had loose salary conversation (talked about band but not specifics), and approaching the official offer stage. It's become clear the role is something I'm very well qualified for, but their pay expectations for the role are much lower than mine. The second one I didn’t feel I was as prepared for and felt like I totally bombed it. Has anyone else had this experience and still was able to move forward? I feel like I ruined my chances by not having the right answers for the two interviewers in the second interview but I’m trying to be optimistic 😅 is there still hope?
