I would wait. Make Director and then look for other positions.

I’d jump to google and use upcoming promotion to negotiate more $$ and/or an accelerated promotion review process

Yes they gave me L4! Big step down in my opinion especially if comp isn’t a step up

like

If Google wants you now they’ll want you again later. Get your bump and leverage it for a role with google next year or something of the sort. We’re not going to stop hiring any time soon, especially for GCP.

Your level at Deloitte has absolutely no impact on how we assign your level. It's the same thing as someone that is a principal on industry after 5 years saying that their level is equivalent to a partner at Deloitte. Either way....good luck when you reapply

helpful

Wait to make a director. Google negotiates only when you have a better offer and their default is always to put you one level lower. Also, once you enter at a certain level it takes 2-3 years min to switch to next level.

like

It takes 2-3 years to go from L4 to L5. L5 to L6 is a longer process, L6 and above is even longer.

Depends on what you want to do long term

like

Have you looked at where your partners or directors have ended up? You should do that and see if the roles that they are exiting to excite you

Let's talk honestly. If you were rated as an L4 - the chances that an extra year will get you the tech skills that you need to come in as an L5 are near zero. If you don't have those skills after 6-8 years....it's not like you are going to develop them as a Director. Now - it is possible that if you re-interview and the recruiter asks the interviewers to rate you as a level 5 that a separate set of interviewers will rate you higher. Or they could nix you entirely. If you join as an L4 - and you are as good as you think you are....you will make L5 in March of 2023. L5 is a nice level with good pay. If you decide to pass....it's unlikely you will develop the tech skills that Google wants...nor will Google care that you are a director now. It all really comes down to whether you want to work less hours, with tech people, in a firm that has perks that are amazing or whether you want to stay in consulting

You can absolutely bridge the gap in a year. You could bridge the gap in 2-3 months…

like

Definitely reject, say it’s not the right opportunity for you right now but you want to stay in touch for when it is the right time

like

When you get promoted, reach back out (maybe 1-2 months after promo) and then ask what might be a good fit for you

How many YOE do you have?

That is just based on how I have seen my peers who go to google get leveled. Some of them take pay cuts, if equity doesn’t make up for it. But equity grows and WLB is much better at google, and usually no travel. But depends on what is important to you

Started a new role and ended up making more $ last year than what is allowed for roth ira contributions (although i’ve already contributed the full amount to my account) assuming the best path here (before filing taxes) is 1) call vanguard and ask to recharacterize all my contributions last year into a traditional ira 2) convert that traditional ira into a roth 3) start contributing this year to traditional and repeat back door process. Correct thinking?

Some are gonna hate me for this but at what point did you realize that maybe I don’t want to be a partner and maybe this is just gonna take too much sacrificing for me to make it. In public accounting there’s a lot about work life balance this and that but I’ve never seen a partner not work all day. I’m not in public accounting anymore just curious on if any partners here ever thought to themselves that maybe being senior manager long term and making 150-200k wouldn’t have been so bad.

I am torn between moving to a product director role (unicorn fintech) vs continuing my current role (principal at a M&A strategy boutique, can make partner in 1-2 years) vs moving to corporate development roles (no offers yet). I have 16 years of experience, recent 4 yrs of which in M&A commercial due diligences. I see all three as attractive options, but is it a good pursuit to take a product director role at a recently turned fintech unicorn vs the other options?

Anyone had a FAANG company try to mislead you in applying for a role you’re overqualified for, hoping you’ll jump just for the name? I was approached by Apple for a channel sales role. I made it clear that I have been a senior manager in the past, and wouldn’t take a more junior position than that. The recruiter said the seniority can be defined later, and we should just talk. I had one interview, which went really well. Next thing I knew, they wanted to schedule 6 more interviews [cont]

We are currently building the plan for the hybrid model we will follow mid October. (No specific date yet.) We have committed to an A/B model with groups attending MT and Th/F in person, working remotely the other three days. If you have an AB model do you deliver the same content to your students each day, regardless of them being remote or in person? Or is the lesson cycle one that begins on the first day you teach in person for each group? This second model seems complicated.
