I have an offer at KPMG FDD but when I went to essentially put in my two weeks (I currently work at PwC audit starting my third year) they essentially told me I would be able to transfer to PwC FDD after 1 more busy season (95% chance is what they said - essentially as long as there’s no market downturn). Is it worth sticking it out for 1 more year to do PwC FDD or should I just jump now?

I work in FDD and I went through this process. Just tell them that you have an offer from KPMG in FDD. Don’t give them a chance, you have to tell them the transfer is now or I’m out. And please make sure to reach out to the HR folks in FDD explaining the situation. I guarantee you that they will transfer you right away. We are trying to hire 150 peoples so they would be pissed to see someone leave for kpmg

like

Yeah I did this recently and had an offer within a week

like

Take the offer, FDD at PwC is hiring like crazy. If they can get you into the summer class I’d say stay, but otherwise you’re best bet is to go to kpmg and if you want to come back, Pwc FDD will welcome you with open arms

Counter offer that you want a transfer end of the month, not a full year. If they say no then that makes your decision easier. You can go work for Kpmg for a year and come back to PWC after if you’re that set on it.

A year is a long time. Did you speak to FDD or is that assurance? I’ve seen Job postings for this at pwc, so this may be audit trying to squeeze another season out of you.

Take the offer

Partner in FDD at PwC here. This is gamesmanship by audit. Contact HR in FDD and tell them the situation. You’ll be in FDD by July 1 or sooner.

like

Mostly because this is about as early notice as possible so it’s absurd posturing by audit. The audit team should be able to fill the position without issue (unless it’s a 5/31 audit but then you’d be looking at like 8/1). You start losing these negotiations the closer to busy season you get.

like

I would ask to be transferred ASAP (may be 7/1) at pwc and to match comp and title (prob senior at kpmg) otherwise bounce

like

This is the way. You don’t gain anything from another busy season. In fact, you lose (I) one year incremental salary, (II) one year better bonus and (III) one year of experience in the practice you want to be in. It is way too early for them to tell you to wait another year

like

I was on the opposite end, was at KPMG audit and wanted FDD but internal transfer was slow so I went external. Ended up at Deloitte which is better than I expected at KPMG

like

Nope - take the KPMG offer. The funny thing is, there is likely somebody else in your same exact situation at KPMG right now, mulling over their PwC offer because KPMG said they have to do another busy season. I know, it makes zero sense.

like

I would leave. However, if you want to stay make them give you an actual offer as those are a lot harder to get out of than just them giving you a verbal promise.

Take the offer. Internal transfers often don’t have same comp bumb as when leaving.

tell them you'd be willing to transfer now but not wait a year. they have zero leverage. That way if they decline they are the ones turning you away not you rejecting them. nobody can blame you for that and youll preserve you relationships

What were the interviews like, if you don’t mind me asking? Have three KPMG interviews this week.

Same ^

Take the offer, the other option is the carrot on the end of the stick.

I was just in same situation with same firms. I bounced

Leave. An internal transfer needs to be provided right now or you are leaving.

leave

Take the offer. 1000%

I’m an A3 and they told me one more year too

How tough is it to lateral to a larger bank, or to exit into corp dev/strategy at a "large cap" company at the VP-ish level? I'm currently in IB at a smaller MM bank, but kind of trapped until I get my green card which obviously will be a few years. I don't hate my bank/team but I do feel limited by the bank (since obviously reputation/size dictates the deals the bank can win)

I’m a 2nd year and effectively just ran a deal on my own with the partner. It ran smoothly, I got praise from the partner, and the partner said that they trust me to do most stuff without their sign off (so no need to check with them in future unless I’m really unsure). Generally there is one or two mid levels above me, and I find it way harder to do my job when they are managing me. They like to keep me on the bench, get me to do minor tasks and don’t let me take responsibility and ownership.

Potentially have an offer from a local tech startup. I’m 24, currently make ~$95K base and ~$50K, with an additional ~$20K in profit sharing (so total comp around $160-170K). Offer would likely (cont)

I made limited EQ partner in 2019 . This week I was told I’m getting moved to counsel effective Jan 1. My hours were negatively impacted in 2019 by an ill parent (only child) and in 2020 multiple clients said pencils down for half the year (& additional family illness & a death), + kids. I know nothing about the counsel role. What terms/arrangements have people negotiated? I don’t know what negotiation ability I’ll have, but wanted to be better informed.
