Happy Friday again Fish! Please DM me if you’re looking to make a switch to BCG and want a referral, there is a huge push for EHs right now. I’ve had several friends join who have been thrilled with the first few months, and several referrals currently in the interview process. I’m more than happy to help: - Connect you to friends who’ve come in as experienced hires from Various consulting firms (big 4, S&, ATK, etc.) - Hop on a call to discuss resume /behavioral prep - Share interview tips
After 6 applications in the past 3 years, KPMG finally contacted me for an interview. 🤣 Had interviews with basically everyone else lol.
Ad copywriter who’s freelancing outside of agency world, who do I ask for a reference/review from when finishing up a project? Project leader (who I had minimal interaction with) or day-to-day contact who is lower ranking but actually worked with me beyond the initial interview? At an agency I’d go straight to the CD, but this is a consultancy that doesn’t have that sort of structure.
Sunday thoughts - prepped for an upcoming interview all day and felt wracked with self doubt. Then realised that the 5-year-ago (22yo) me would be thrilled to be where I am now. I came from nothing from the middle of nowhere - the land of teen moms and red necks. I had imposter syndrome all throughout undergrad and didn’t believe in myself. If you’ve come a long way, share your story and let’s toast to our successes. This job can be hard, but getting to today hasn’t been easy either
Are thank you notes or emails after an interview still recommended? Or, would they just annoy the interviewer?
Anyone know how the Master's in Financial Analytics is at Santa Clara University? I was thinking of applying there for a chance to break into senior finance roles in Silicon Valley/Bay Area.
Lots of articles say it’s meaningless/less impactful to begin a convo with the typical “hey, how are you?”...What’s your take here? Let’s say you have an interview and the recruiter will call you at 9am. How do you answer the phone?
How long is it reasonable to push back MBB interview dates? I have a first round interview at the end of this month but am in the middle of a very intense project. Is pushing the interview back by 2 weeks unreasonable?
What are the odds: I randomly clicked at a profile shown here on the networking bar. Upon checking their LinkedIn, it turns out they used to work at the boutique company I’m currently interviewing for (same role!) and left just a month back for a role in industry. Is it OK to reach out to them on here or on LinkedIn and connect with them? Please advise 🙏
Should I remove undergrad internships from my resume now that I have 3.5 years of full time experience? I worked 20 hours per week during the semester and 40 hours during the winter/summer breaks for two of my four internships. I'm applying for cybersecurity positions and those internships were more IT focused (configuration management, IT asset, etc).
Bad interview. One where you break into sweat and it's so long and you aren't getting the right answer. Pray for me
Looking to resign in about a month. Really need a mental break from the corporate world. I’ve amassed about 2-3 years worth of salary in my investments to hold me through for however long. How bad is it if I took 6-18 months off to pursue hobbies and possible other career paths (content creation/vlogging) while being unemployed before applying to another job in industry? TLDR; I’m about to quit, how bad does a 6-18 month employment gap look when looking to apply again to the workforce?
Anyone had an interview with PwC FDD recently? How long did you wait after the HR call for an interview?
Are beards appropriate in big law in the US while interviewing and/or working as an associate? Could it just depend on the person interviewing you? From what I’ve seen in Europe, they’re tolerated even in old school environments. Thank you!
Does anyone have any insight on Facebook case interviews? I’ve been asked to think about how they use data ...thanks in advance for the help
Is it unethical to apply to other jobs on my own while also working with a recruiter? I’m not applying to any companies that the recruiter has sent me roles for.
Help needed! Asking for a Brazilian friend who just recently had his O-1 visa approved (first one after an OPT). he got started on a couple jobs, but he’s always getting stuck on the “your I-94 is expired” issue. Some lawyers told him to leave the country, but he can’t seem to schedule an interview in any US consulates, as most are still closed/not taking non emergency cases due to covid. Has anyone been through this situation or have any tips on how to work around it? Thank you!
I have roughly 1.5 YOE at a top 10 firm, half in audit half in TAS, no CPA. I’ve applied to and received referrals for pretty much all big 4 and other 10 firms. For the ones who gave me a phone screen or first round interview, I was told they’d like me to have more YOE before considering me. Yet I see folks on here with 1.5 YOE in just audit getting senior roles in TAS at these same firms. I believe I’m personable and decent at interviewing. Any ideas on why I’m not getting any offers?
Anyone who went from tech/product to MBB? How was the transition and did it work out as expected?
Hi Fishes, How's KPMG Global services as compared to Deloitte India . I have cleared all rounds and expecting 30-40% hike on my current CTC. Experience 7.6Y Is it worth to switch to KPMG Global services from DI for senior consultant role Please advise Thanks in advance
Does anyone here use Evolve to manager their vacation rental? If so, how is your experience using them.
I’m taking the SPHR in less than 2 months and haven’t started studying for it. How difficult is it? I’ve been in HR for 20 years and have experienced ALOT in that time, although there are always employee relations scenarios that surprise me! How much do I really need to study for this? I just can’t seem to motivate myself to do it, I’m so mentally burnt out at the end of the day from a high stress HR job, the last thing I feel like doing is studying HR!
PSA Speaking up for hospitalized COVID patients now. Friends and family usually get a lot of updates about someone in the hospital they love or want to know about. This time you have to be ok with a
When can I put in my resignation after H1B is approved? Do I need to wait until October 1 for CoS?
Interviewing for Saatchi and Saatchi NY - any thoughts on the work life balance there? Trying to avoid 80hr weeks
Did anyone from big4 recently got interviewed or offered a job at Amazon? These are two different cultures, worried that it may not be the right switch. I am SM4 and being offered L7 Principal-TPM at AMZN. Insights, please...
Lol, Indian Matchmaking on Netflix shows us how cringe some dates go 😬 now we know why some people stay single
Traveling to San Diego with the BF in November and looking for a place to stay and things to do. Any recommendations?
I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
I am maxing out my H1B in a couple of months. My visa stamp obviously expires as well. In case I am able to get an extension lost I140 approval, do I need to go back to get a new stamp or can stay with the I797 approval copy in the states?
Told an intern at my firm in a different group that reached out to try and join my team that he should be prepared to work 60-70 hours. He smugly laughed and said everyone he knows at our firm works that many hours (we are a B4 and it’s certainly not the case). Then he proceeded to tell me he leads a 10 person workstream. Then he asked me to refer him to managers to get him transitioned into our group. Posting so others can also get a kick out of this.
How eerie was it to pack up your classroom this year? It was like a memorial with all the students' work everywhere, finished and unfinished, unfulfilled intentions, as quiet as a tomb. #covidpoetry
We have sales people in Canada and the US, the Canadians make 150K CAD and down here it’s 150K USD, the Canadians argue they should be making 30% more than the US colleagues to be equal bc of the exchange! I explain the salary is dependent on the market data for them in Canada, WHERE THEY LIVE, and you can’t compare it to the US employees and the market data down here. Overall they are both in the 75th% for total comp. for their industry. Am I wrong?
Just moved in-house & am hiring a designer - NO clue what salary to propose for this role. Full benefits, mid-level, Chicago-based, mostly designing internal materials (town halls, etc.). Help?
How much room for negotiation is there on role level when moving to MBB as a lateral? Currently M2 at a boutique founded by ex-MBB partners. We often compete with MBB. Recruiters at each firm have steered me towards joining at Associate (M) /Consultant (BB) level which I believe is common practice for lateral moves. This would likely result in a small pay cut for me, even at A3/C3. All have suggested a 6-12 month window to Manager promotion is possible. Would appreciate some advice, thanks!
Has anyone ever used the SkyBaby for flying? What are your thoughts? Me and the 6mo old will be flying solo cross country. It’s not our first rodeo, but the last one (when he was 4mo) was pretty miserable. I had the boba wrap on the way there and it was just way too hot and confining. The baby bjorn on the way back was better but he still got pretty squirmy so I ended up taking him out and holding him for 4 hours. And tickets are way too expensive for his own seat.
