I have an offer to a commercial real estate company in hand. My current brokerage (residential focus) wants me to pay $3000 penalty since I’m breaking the contract and leaving. I’m financially struggling and 3k is a big number to pay now. The new job will be paying me $2000/month up until the first year only. Is it wise to pay or stick around in residential sales just to avoid that penalty?

The answer depends upon why you are leaving; it might be worth it to lose a few thousand if you just can't stand where you are working right now.

The fee for breaking the contract should have been disclosed at the time you signed, so they aren't "charging you" anything... it's just the agreement you already made when you chose to work for them.

I'm a firm believer in avoiding anything that doesn't bring you joy. If you are unhappy in your present situation, you really have to leave, life is too short to waste on a so-so career.

It's not in your best interest to stay in a job where you don't feel fulfilled, but you have made a commitment to your present employer. The best thing to do is stay around until the end of your contract, because that's what you agreed to do. That's why contracts exist, after all

It's time to take a risk, if you can pay it if you find yourself in a very compromising situation, it's time to pay and go elsewhere.

It would not be wise to pay the penalty. You would be better off sticking around in residential sales and continuing to generate income. The new job may not be as stable as your current one, so it is important to weigh all of your options before making a decision.

I would say don't pay the penalty. You would be much better off sticking around in residential sales just to avoid that penalty. Commercial real estate can be a very lucrative industry, but it also comes with a lot of risk. You may find that you are not as successful in commercial real estate as you would like to be, and you could end up losing a lot of money.

If you are confident in your ability to sell commercial real estate, then it is worth it to pay the penalty and move to the new company. The new job will likely be a better opportunity for you in the long run, and you will be able to earn a higher salary.

Just got 56% increase in fixed pay whereas others are offering 100%. Even now Cognizant is willing to give more than 100%. Just wanted to hear from you guys on this.

Hello Everyone,

I'm currently a civil design engineer, and trying to switch to real estate as a Program Manager. I have an interview in a week where they tell me I will have to work on ( for about 3-4 hours ) on an operational case study.

The job is located in Paris and the job is in French .

Does anyone here have any case studies in Real estate that they can share ? and if they're from France, that would be even better.

Thank you in advance !
