I have an opportunity to transfer to my company’s London office that only does Forensic Accounting. I’ve been a tax accountant in public accounting in the US for almost 8 years now. I mostly work with partnerships and corporations. Is there anyone who has made a similar transition from taxes to forensic accounting or has opinions on it? I don’t like taxes and have been wanting to try something new but I also don’t want to be in a foreign country with a job I don’t have the qualifications for.

Why not make the jump, do a 6-month hiatus, pick up some skills, and then pivot back to the US? I'll even give you a referral to Deloitte's forensic group after that stint if you're interested.

If you know a PPMD here, you can probably make the jump to forensics US right away.

I moved to forensic from tax. I’m happy with my decision. I would ask are you a US citizen? If so then I would do the jump to forensics if you’re really interested in it. If you’re not a citizen then I would say to think in which country you would like to end up for the next few years since immigration is a pain for both England and the US.

Thank you for the input! I’m glad to hear the switch from tax worked out for you. I’m a US citizen so my company would sponsor a visa.

Lol, you make London sound like a third world country 🤣

Lol! Definitely didn’t mean it like that. Just knowing I’d be far away from any kind of support system could be hard.

like

Do it because why not? It’s not that hard, you can figure it out as you go!

Depends on the projects, i suppose. What kind of work will you be doing in London? AML?
