I have been drug free now a little over two weeks. Last night I went out with some friends to party. While I was there someone offered me coke. Walking away was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Hopefully I’ll be strong enough to do it again next time it happens.

Desperately want a getaway and plan to go to Mexico for the beach. Has anyone traveled internationally with a toddler during pandemic? How do you all feel about that, is it safe, esp we all got vaccinated except for him?

Pretty sure the saga of the slave driven company has come to an end I’m the only HR person at this company. Friday I had full admin rights, and went to check email Saturday; account locked. Payroll/HRIS locked out. PEO service says no pending termination is on my file. Went to the office today to get my things just in case. Located in CA. Was about to report numerous violations too. All because I couldn’t solve 8 months of payroll issues in a day. 🫠 Good riddance, I’m getting a lawyer.

Is everyone on here sober from (mostly) everything? Do you sometimes partake in other vices? For me, it’s smoking herb 1-2x/week. Used to be way worse (❄️⛷💊🥃) and that’s how/why I justify it.

I have a gambling problem and it’s become way worse due to Covid. I have been playing online during the pandemic as I’m now in a state where it is legal to play online. This has been bad to the tune of I’m losing double what I earn. What is the best solution or recover, curtail, or just get support so I stop feeling like a piece of shit.

My husband is an alcoholic and it’s getting worse with the holidays. He’s started every day drinking high alcohol-content IPAs as early as 8am. And he drinks them all day and all night like soda. He did AA when he was younger but is now vehemently against it. He is high-functioning. Has a PhD from MIT and works for a venture capitalist firm. I wondered how he gets through the day, but he started to come home early (mid-afternoon) and immediately open a beer while working. What should I do?

Just wanted to post an update. 68 weeks ago I posted about my drinking problems. It was bad. It’s been 8 months now without a single drink. I still can’t believe it. I still miss drinking. I’ve sat with coworkers and watched them drink. It’s not nearly as fun, but I am so thankful each morning I can hold my head up high. Will I drink again? I only said I would quit for 60 days. Can I have a beer? Some wine? A fine bourbon? I sometimes crave it. I guess there is the answer! You can all do this!

Feeling so frustrated and scared. I am trying my hardest to be loving to my brother who is addicted to many things. My family has been encouraging him for years to get real help. He’s finally semi-agreed to go to a detox facility and then rehab. However, those are far away from where we all live now. My 70+ dad wants to fly with my brother there to make sure he goes. I understand, but also...there’s a freaking pandemic going on with a virus targeting older people. Cont’d...

Took today off to work on my oldest daughter’s truck and watch Stranger Things 4:8 & 4:9 with my youngest . So grateful for AA. I have the relationships I only dreamed of when I was an active drunk.

I’ve managed well during all of this and am approaching my first full year of sobriety. But the thoughts of “I want to get slammed at a bar when this is over” are starting.

Does anyone have recommendations for non-alcoholic drinks? I have been having soda with lime at happy hours, but also just found Athletic Beer that is n/a as an option. I’m tired of temptation and upturned or confused looks. Also, just have felt so much better not drinking and not going down a spiral - really want to keep things that way.

Anyone have experience with high range drink driving offences? How has it impacted your career?

First in-person retreat in a while coming up and first for me at this particular firm. Several people have mentioned that much of the bonding etc happens while drinking. I am newly sober and now worried about being in this environment, any tips for making it through the weekend? Similar experiences?

This time last year I knew I needed to stop drinking, but I couldn’t. This year, though, I’m putting my health first. Starting day 2 of sobriety and hope to keep it up. Thanks to this group for all the support and encouragement shown to those of us struggling with such powerful addictions.

My dad has a problem with alcohol. When he stops drinking for a day he clearly exhibits all the signs for alcohol withdraw. Shaky hands, sweating insomnia. I’m so tired of seeing him fall. My mom has passed away (they were long divorced) so I really don’t have anyone to turn to. How can I be supportive without being an enabler? He has lost the last three jobs and is currently jobless and will must likely need my financial help soon.

I’m a Sr Manager and I was arrested for the first time in my life, and it was for DWI. I haven’t been convicted as it’s a long drawn out process, but curious how big of a deal this is when looking for consulting/IT/Program Management type jobs. Anyone with experience or stories getting hired with a DWI? I’m freaking out that I’m not going to be able to switch and find good 200/250k+ paying jobs now

Starting on my journey to sobriety today from sex addiction. I’ve been clean from alcohol for several years but my therapist has pushed me to start attending AA meetings in addition to SAA meetings. I know I can’t overcome this alone.
