I have been seeing a lot of discussions/ questions about the bad WLB at Deloitte among folks.
Guys, Deloitte is a highly reputed firm that is known for the quality of work.
They charge heavily to clients. (Almost 5-6 times hourly rate than a typical IT firm). Naturally, the clients want to get the work done ASAP with quality. Hence there is a massive amount of work pressure on the management and the resources.
Deloitte compensates their resources really well along with providing a lot of Perks.

@Author Deloitte can easily solve the WLB by putting enough resources. They earn In USD still try to squeeze resources when deployment is required.

U deploy... 1 resource for 80 hours a week work. And when resource complains... "You are not passionate enough".🤣🤣🤣🤣

funnylike

Yes officially.. U have to put 40 hours only for a week.

I have worked for 6-7 years in deloitte USI in analytics and joined Accenture 2 months back. Other consulting firms specifically Accenture has far far better projects and leaders in comparison to Deloitte usi( specifically talking about analytics and insights).

Deloitte is certainly not the best paymaster, I have had much better offers from the other Big4s. (I recently turned down Deloitte’s offer last week)

It’s sad you compare Deloitte to other IT firms, while you should consider it to MBBs. If you do plan to compare it to IT, then do it for FAANG companies.

Buddy if WLB is not important to you, then probably you don’t have a wife or wi-fi

PS: is this some Deloitte HR trying to promote the company owing to the high levels of offer declines and attrition ? 😄

Adding one more to list
I am not sure why Deloitte is branded like anything. Internally it's same like any other IT firm, may be even more worse than that.
I personally know one of my friend where she was intentionally put into PIP at the time of Corona. Though she exceled in her project, but still she was put into PIP.
When she checked from her manager, he told her she was being targeted because she is a new hire and PIP is just an excuse to terminate employee because they don't want to tarnish their brand or image. So her manager suggest her to start looking for other jobs asap.
This is what Deloitte is the so called Big 4.At the time of pandemic when govt was asking organisation to support employee Deloitte was internally putting pressure on employee to leave organisation by putting them under PIP.
And now when situation is stable they are hiring like anything and showing their good name.
Would never recommend anyone to join Deloitte

Continuing here...

Deloitte is very proactive in recognizing and rewarding resources along with showering employee benefits to each and every one for they know that it's difficult to survive and work in Deloitte.

Naturally, as an employee we are supposed to give up something in exchange which in this case is a bit hassled WLB.

I encourage everyone to join Deloitte USI provided you are passionate about what you do coz if you anything less than that or in a phase of life where it's not possible to give your everything to Deloitte, don't join Deloitte.

funnylike

Definitely an HR executive trying to encourage people to not leave firm. "If you cannot give all to Deloitte"? LOL. Buddy no firm owns the lives of its employees. Employee welfare policies such as 9 to 10 hour work days are in place, so that Employers don't exploite us. The pay is below standards when compared to other Big4s, and you say give all to thw company? 😂😂 You say it pays better than I.T firms, well it ought to because it's not at the same level playing field as the I.T firm

likefunny

In short, your answer to "Is the WLB bad at Deloitte?" is "Yes".

Honestly, in my opinion, duck what Deloitte does and why or how, if there is no WLB in a company, the rest of your life is going to be in disarray. And ultimately you're earning all that money to enjoy life and actually find time to live and love it, instead of looking like a burnt out bald executive who looks 45 at 30.

WLB is everything.

like

The benefits are just a packaging to lure the gullible ones. They are literally 50-60k usable at most.

like

What do ya'll do with so many Perks? Do you like it? I'm more of a KitKat man myself.

funny

Just to clarify perks are average here, Deloitte just diverting some money in employee welfare which other firms are giving in salary.
DELOITTE PAY STRUCTURE is pathetic

I am at a better place with a better compensation and better WLB. If a company wants to manage WLB it "CAN".

Well, in terms of benefits I guess Deloitte has done all that they could.

1. Giving really handsome hikes and bonuses this year. (15 to 20 % hike was kind of the avg. hike this year while bonus was like 15 to 20 % of CTC - which is usually about 10% of CTC. I know folks who have joined in Dec 2020 with 50% hike and got a hike of about 15% while getting a 15% of CTC as bonus - bonus being calculated on a prorated basis - just after working for 4 months in Org.)

2. Giving a one time performance bonus of 15k in Feb this year for performing individuals across verticals. This was not paid to everyone though.

3. Giving 15k for WFH setup related expenses. Which btw they would be giving again next year.

4. Gifting smartphones of your choice - Samsung or Apple phones (reimbursing upto 25k)

5. They are going to pay a well-being bonus of 25k in January. (This may be repeated going forward)

6. December will see a revision of salary for folks who are below market standards based on experience and skill (this will be additional to the appraisal in March)

I guess in terms of monetary benefits, Deloitte has played their part very well. What needs to improve is the project management aspects.

The problem is that Managers behave like beggars infront of the clients instead of partners. They say no to nothing. All the resources in the team are not same. Each and every one is in a different phase of life and has different priorities. The management should understand that.

Folks who are working at Deloitte know that it's either everything or nothing. You need to go above and beyond your daily contributions to excel in Deloitte or like the tenured folks say - "you need to build your brand in Deloitte" . The competition is cut throat. Hence I said that only if you are willing to give everything, join Deloitte, else don't consider joining.

"Bit hassled WLB" and "Give your everything to deloitte" sounds very contrasting. At the end of the day personal life also matters, no matter you enjoy your work the most. I believe encouraging 14-15 hours of work is not at all good as we are humans not machine. I know Deloitte gives better perk to employees but the perks are not exceptional. The conclusion that we can draw from here is if you are worried about WLB then this place is not for you.

If the clients want to get work done ASAP you hire more resources. You do not understaff the project on purpose and stress the team. That is not healthy in any firm for that matter.

There would be a less flying out if leadership understood the basics right!

like

Agreed. Few years back, Deloitte was a very different kind of firm.

like

Joined Deloitte way back in 2012. During the initial 1-2 years it was good. But something changed. Timeliness became ridiculous, personal space became obsolete, expectations were unrealistic.

There is a toxic culture which is brewing below the top layer. What facilities are you referring to? Gym? TT table?

Sr consultant msgs me from U.S, on whatsapp at 3A.M in the morning to set up a escalation call at 6A.M.

To please the client, I was asked to work during the collective disconnect. P.S: It was informed 1 day before the disconnect.

There are numerous instances of such kind. Deloitte was an awesome place to work, but not anymore.

I also used to think in the same manner. My request to you is wake up before its too late.

like

Left in 2016. Things went really down hill post that.

So you are saying.. Deloitte is special, they pay well.. So work for 14 hours and 7 days. Right? They pay well.. Soooo... Perfect (WLB/Pay Ratio)

Nice argument.

like

I'm barely surviving a 6-8 hour workday and here people are talking about 14 hours. What's the point of working so much?

😂 OP is trying very hard to remove the negative imagine Deloitte has got because of WLB. To be very straight forward that's not Possible how many perks Company gives to their employees.

funny

Not trying to remove anything. Else I wouldn't have pointed out the flaws of management in some of my previous responses. I am an employee just like you. Just wanted to paint a better picture about the reasons behind a bad WLB at Deloitte. That's it.

Equating great learning with poor WLB is the most crappy logic I have ever heard.

Bro. We are ready to work a lot but not on a stake of our own health. Moreover Deloitte is not a good paymaster anymore.

If Deloitte is charging 5 to 6 times from their customer, is Deloitte paying their employees 5 to 6 times as compared to the other IT companies in terms of compensation and parks? If work is double, pay should also be double, not 25% more.

like

Charging clients 5-6 times more than a regular IT firm should reflect in paying the employees too, atleast 3-4 time more than a regular IT firm

like

Why not pay employees 5-6 times? If your revenue is 5 fold, even after you pay employees 5 times and offer perks 5 times, your net profit per employee will still stand 5 times higher

like

and people arguing about the billability of Deloitte. You need to realize that its a consulting firm. Most of the time even the clients don't understand what's the problem they are trying to solve and in what direction they should go. Deloitte does a strategy project with them to understand their challenges, build a road map, workout a POC and then develop a full fledged working model with post live upgrades and enhancements in phases. In the scale of things, it's very different from a typical IT firm where you have a team of DB engineers, data scientists, Data Visualization folks and MLops folks. In Deloitte, the projects operate like startups where each and every resource is capable of driving things end to end like a full stack data scientist. They do that with quality and consistency. Hence the steep learning curve but pathetic Work Life Balance and such high billability. The business model is very different.

funny

Deloitte USI 1 as much as people like you who are being overpaid yet chilling out throughout the day.
I shared my personal experience at Deloitte USI, and you can browse through my other comments to realize that I have shown a fair bit of dissatisfaction towards Deloitte, questioning their mentality and processes before judging me in one comment.
