I have been selected as a cloud architect and wondering if I need to be really technical to succeed on this job? I understand the high level overall of how to stream data from source to target but not sure if I should be brushing up on my development skills too which may be a weak point on my end

That is a good question to ask. You need clarification. What is the objective technology transformation, CI/CD DevOps. You need more information.

I haven’t seen an Tech Architect that wasn’t deeply technical, but if you were selected then it might not matter. Definitely clarify

It is for a data migration project and I'm assuming architects are usually in between PM and developer standpoint in terms of being technical? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Hmm Architects are definitely more technical than Pms who really just manage tasks (sorry). So they’re definitely a lot closer to the developers in terms of tech ability. Especially if as an Architect you’re expected to design the Data migration technical blueprint.

As an architect you have to be extremely technical. Whether you need development skills really depends on your sow, expectations for your specific role and what resources you might have access to ie developers. Just varies.. as GT1 said you/us need more info.

At AWS, you’d have to research the services you could use to design the solution to your problem. You’ll need to have an idea on how to implement it as well as get help from the infrastructure and the developer folks.

How did you get selected as cloud architect if you are not technical..this is puzzling for me.

OP May be getting training to do his/her job. Some organizations name all job titles the same but folks do different roles.
