I have been wanting to switch to advisory from audit. I have spoken up regarding this possible transfer but it doesn’t look like it will happen internally. I don’t want to leave public or B4 (cont)...

(Cont) but I think I will have to look elsewhere for the opportunity that I want. Does anyone have tips or experience in a successful switch from one B4 to another? Is there a way to apply/network without causing issues at your current firm?

like

I have never heard of internal candidates having an easier time switching than external. It’s why most people have jumped ship. Your individual experience is not the case for most. I’d also like to know just how long it took you to facilitate the transfer.

like

I dont know what specific advisory practice you want, but external transfer to advisory is neither easy because firms also have internal candidates who want audit->advisory transfer (I know this because I am currently in advisory). You should be top performer and should network a lot to make transfer. I think the best way to transer is doing the summer rotation in your firm but seems like it wont work for you. Have you tried?

like

We have summer interns, new hires (most of them did an internship with us), summer rotators from audit, and some experienced hires. I know it is required for audit staff to finish the first year as a senior to be considered (but not guaranteed) for internal advisory transfer at PwC and Deloitte. I assume you want M&A? But it might be easier to get into the financial advisory or accounting advisory. FDD/TAS transfer is not that easy even within the firm.

Just start talking to recruiters at other B4 (experienced hire recruiters). Over the last year we’ve hired 2 PwC seniors and 1 EY senior from audit into our FDD group. I think it’s just if the timing is right great, we may have even opened positions up for a couple of these people.
