I have been working as a staff accountant for 6 months, and I have a job offer for more money. What should I do? Should I take the job or tell my current employer to see about getting them to match it? I am currently working on my CPA license.

Don’t be short sighted.

Leaving after 6 months is on the quicker side but it can be explained, so it’s not the end all. Focus on doing good work. I’ve jumped a few times. Always switched to a different group so it was always “justified.” Never burned bridges and have a “standing offer” to return whenever I feel like. Switched recently as well to law firm. Close mentors at the firm encouraged me to take this opportunity when I wasn’t sure about it.

Wait until you get your license at least. Then jump to whatever. Also are you at big 4? If you are building credibility than at least 2 years in public is usually preferred

There’s no reason for them to wait unless they’re leaving PA.

I'm currently working in a heritage field trying to figure out the best career pivot and have been working in the survey/data depts for the last 3 years. My knowledge is self taught but I feel like I'm missing out on the basics and to move into something like Data Management my current role it's more about fixing problems and writing procedures (which I enjoy). Any advice on how to start with data management/ training so that I can move into a more standard, better paid career eventually?

3 years ago I asked for a compensation review/raise, went through what felt like a ridiculous 8 MONTH long process of defending why it was warranted, only to be told no. 3 months ago I asked again and it has gone nowhere. I should add that salary bands are kept secret and I have no clue what the range for my position is. There are a decent amount of benefits in my position, the biggest being WLB, which is what has kept me here for so long. But I’m getting frustrated. What would you do?

1. Getting over the nerves that are as a result of taking a risk (I am late 30's)
2. The guilt of leaving a role where I have an amazing working relationship with all my colleagues and my boss

Any tips would be appreciated as I am a mess of nerves!!

Hello everyone,

I am currently a HR Generalist for a small aerospace company, located in CA. I have been in a generalist role for a little over 4 years now and before that, I did recruiting/safety for about 3 years. I am now looking into getting my HR Certification, but am stuck in between the PHR-CA or the SHRM-CP. Does anyone have any recommendations they can give me?

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

I graduated with a degree in Business in 2018. I’m planning to pursue a Masters in Engineering (likely will pair with MBA) and have been taking the required pre-reqs over the last year from community college.

Is there a big difference between MEng and MS degrees? Or about the same?

I started off looking in going into Mechanical Eng but now looking more into Civil & Environmental.

Is anyone here willing to provide insight about job prospects between the two fields?

Or any other advice?
