I have been working in HSBC for 2 years now and everyday this company is hitting new lows with cheapness.

McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Hey everyone -
Not the exact right bowl, but looking for advice/referrals for a close family friend trying to break into ESG/climate change/sustainability consulting.
They have ~7 YOE in finance (mostly junk debt, some S&T) and 20 YOE in development banking at an IGO (think World Bank, doing everything from public debt offerings, infrastructure, etc. all w heavy ESG/compliance requirements).
Thanks for the help!

Agree about hikes , when I was there , they had given 4-5%...if u r Analyst then ur hard work will be cashed by Managers by telling they are involved in your projects. People at Manager or AVP are mostly doing these things...
Also, above Promotion, every quarter they will tell u that they tried hard for ur promotion, mostly probably next quarter will be promoted and in next quarter they will tell different HR criteria for promotion and atlast when u give ur paper they will promote u
.. switch ASAP
I think your point is probably specific to Bangalore office. HSBC INM (Mumbai) has
1. Office buses with definitely more than 5 pickup and drop off points
2. More than enough seats in the entire office space
3. I can’t vouch for all departments but I know that the Analytics division has hired people with at least 30% hike (incl me) compared to their previous CTC
4. Above average cafeteria with multiple vendor options and 2 other food courts in common areas of the compound
5. No comments, haven’t worked out of that office
6. That’s how HR tickets are raised. You need to raise a ticket on HRDirect and it is assigned to a specialist depending on the category.
7. Same goes for IT also. Maybe the Bangalore folks might not be upto mark but there are IT vendors who sit in the INM office and are pretty skilful
8. We had the best hike in the past 2 years and I’ve seen average colleagues getting at least 12%, so can’t complain
9. This IS a visibility problem. You need to address this with your entity manager or skip manager before it’s too late
10. This is true, I agree. I work with people who have been in the same role for more than 10 years. But as much as promotion being an issue, it is also required from your end to have the conversation with your manager to let them know your intent. If the response isn’t positive, leave immediately
11. Our paper cups were removed because of the carbon zero initiative, so I think we’ll need to have our own
12. Can’t really comment over here since both entity and functional manager are the same for me. But if there is a problem, speak up. Nothing good ever happens from being quiet and keeping it all in
I genuinely hope that things get better for you in your role. But there’s nothing good that’s going to come from sacrificing your health, time or effort for anything or anybody at work.
Good for you mate. Probably you are the few lucky ones in Hsbc
3. They want to transform existing work into new technology but they are not willing to pay to hire good resources. Instead they want existing resources who have very less knowledge about coding to scale up to an advanced level pretty quick and do these automations
4. Really bad cafeteria
5. Really bad B4 office (Bannerghatta rd office)
6. No HR point of contact. You need to raise it in a portal and some random person assigned
7. IT is the worst. They dont even know the basics of Windows and also very arrogant
8. Hikes are peanuts
9. You are working with functional managers in UK but your performance review is done by India entity managers who dont even know what the hell you did. Basically you have to suck up to them.
10. Promotions are very hard
11. Silly thing but you never find cups in breakout area to pour some coffee
12. Really lousy and confused management both in London and India. I dont know why India management exists in the first place.
Please add as comments whichever points I may have missed
Hsbc India 2 - which team and manager? Dm
Leave it then.
I switched from JPMC to hsbc .. and whatever you’re saying is true regarding cups and cafeteria .. but they are moving to a new building by end of this year is what I heard and I believe it’s ginana bring a transition in this case .. that’s the only difference I found between the two so far.. but hikes ,work pressure etc etc are something we can never be satisfied anywhere .. some of it depends on luck some of it on our own proactiveness and ability to lead the work

I work in b7 and it is not all that bad. I am happy that this bank gives atleast lmcp pickup. Also there is door drop after 7.30. It Is still far better than other places. Hike I know is bad but this time we got decent hikes.
