Just tell them not to contact your current employer. Most companies will understand and respect your requests.
Unless you have a coworker(you trust) that can technically stand in as a supervisor, I would say don't contact my employer.
It's common practice to request that a current manager not be contacted. I wouldn't stress about it. Just let them know.
Agreed, have a coworker (even one thats one level higher than you) and say they’re your supervisor, i do this all the time. 😜

There should be something on the application that ask if the can contact your current employer. You can check no. Also get a coworker to vouch for you. The only thing a job reference can do is verify dates of employment and if you are eligible for rehire.

If you belong to a reputable business. Thevonly questions they are allowed to answer are your
Pay and if you are rehirable
They cannot inquire about your pay! They can ask if your were/are an employee and if they will rehire you!
Lie. Give a different number. Everyone taking jobs too seriously. Too many companies to worry about stress from one. Don’t even give two weeks. If I’m leaving I don’t plan on ever coming back.
My job has a dedicated employment verification line. I put that phone number down on my applications and just indicate that it’s a hotline.
It's standard practice not to contact managers until they have offered you the job. I am too leaving after a year, will hand in my notice this week and then my managers will be approached for a reference
It is perfectly ok to ask that a potential employer not contact your manager until after you've agreed to accept a new position. HR professionals deal with this all the time. It doesn't make you look bad.
Since I’ve been an employee longer than most, it’s not uncommon to have people ask to put me down for a reference.
I would ask the recruiter what is the intent of providing that information. The reason I say is because some companies will use that info to verify employment once you accept the job offer. If you check “no. Do not contact employer” then they have to use other methods to verify your employment during background checks and it complicates things. This happened to someone I know.
Employment can be verified directly via human resources and the reason why does not have to be disclosed. It could be a loan, a pre employment check, etc. But they do not have to speak directly to your supervisor.
I would ask them not to contact your employer. Or put down someone else as your manager like a coworker. I usually just ask them not to contact my current employer.
