Work in an old world stable manufacturing company. Best benefits ever.

Government job, or maybe banks.

like

When you mention banks do you mean like a bank teller job or corporate banking?

Many many jobs out there. As others have mentioned - manufacturing firms, banks, insurance firms. Don’t do sales anywhere.

Lots of jobs let you leave it at work so it's very dependent on your background and talents. But please do update if you find something. I fantasize about doing this. I think someday I might want a job working mostly in nature or with animals. Or maybe even in helping others with substance abuse. My spouse and I have always talked about opening a restaurant or maybe even a food truck. Lots of different kinds of risk in some of those options. I guess none are really guarantees to not come home in some regard but working with my hands is something I took for granted in my youth.

like

Opening a restaurant is definitely a dream - but the owning aspect is definitely not a leave it at work type of exit. I’m sure you have thought it through but I have restaurant owner friends and it is all they do day and night. I would consider serving or bartending - but there tend to be no benefits in these types of roles.

Any of the trades. Think of things that everyone needs. Plumber. Electrician. Handyman. HVAC. Might not be advanced consulting money, but I know a few that make six figures and are home at 5p every day eating with their family.

Note: some states provide free training at local colleges. GA is one of these. Hope Grant.

Gov’t work. Not blue collar but definitely a “leave work at work” mentality.

Could you switch to internal firm services to get a quick change while you figure out the long term solution? Same benefits, better work life balance.

I appreciate the guidance - I’ll check it out.

Check out big F500 companies in areas outside of Silicon Valley. Lot of them have good WLB if you’re not hunting the hard promotion. They also have a lot of positions that live off the “get your 8-9 hours in but when you get it in is your business” as long as you can make the crucial meetings

Insurance is great for WLB. I work with insurance clients and (pre-covid) they were out of the office by 5 pretty regularly.
