I have flu like symptoms, but can’t get tested for covid and getting a doc appt seems impossible. Do I basically need to wait until I’m critical or extremely sick to see someone? Any experience here?

Teledocs? I just saw an email from the hospital where I go for something. They are moving everything to telemedicine until further notice. I remember seeing it PwC’s plan but sure everyone has them. Hope you feel better OP

There is no treatment unless you need to be hospitalized - literally nothing you can do. If you have a fever & cough, assume you have it & quarantine. I’m in Seattle & this is the guidance we’re getting. I hope you feel better soon.

This.

I called my local Health Dept, they wouldn’t escalate my case because I don’t have a temp of 100.4. They called back to ask if anything had changed, told me because of the algorithm and the info I gave I wasn’t eligible still. Person recommended I go to urgent care and get a flu and strep test. Called ahead to neighborhood urgent care, described my symptoms and they said they weren’t at all busy and said I could come. I went in with a mask & they took swabs of nose and throat for flu, strep. Also checked for swollen lymph nodes to rule out mono. All tests came back negative. They send three physicians, each checking my breathing- which was normal. They told me that they couldn’t give me a test, but essentially told me to keep covering in public and stay home if I could for a couple of weeks and to monitor my symptoms. They gave me prescription for the cough and nasal drainage that they could tell was there. Honestly, I recommend the urgent care route because at the end of the day - I still got seen and had about five opinions which factored into it, versus non-medical hotline agent. Additionally, I asked for a copy of MY LABS, in addition to the sheet which sites ‘viral symptoms’ which showed that I tested negative for flu and strep. Therefore, if I need to press upon the county or state lab, I’m able to show I’m not just making it up.

If you don’t have a fever, and you DO have nasal congestion, it’s likely not Coronavirus. There’s a good poster somewhere that describes the primary symptoms for flu vs. common cold vs. Coronavirus. A fever, dry cough, and shortness of breath (not upper-respiratory/nasal congestion, but lower-respiratory chest tightness or pain and trouble getting air in & out of your lungs) are the hallmarks of Coronavirus. Please don’t go to a doc’s office or urgent care if you think you have Coronavirus unless you are directed to do so via a phone call in advance. You could potentially endanger other patients or staff and cause the entire facility to have to shut down! I know everyone is nervous and just wants to know for sure, but you have to be smart about it! If you’re not in a high-risk category, you’ll be ok if you follow the proper testing protocol!

There should be a hotline to call. If you qualify, you’ll be able to be tested. Don’t go to your doctors office and don’t go to urgent care or the ER.

You have to call the urgent care before you go so they can prep for your visit (letting you know where to enter, getting PPE gear on, etc.). They’ll isolate you and do rapid strep & flu tests. If those come back negative and they think it’s warranted, you’ll get a referral for a COVID-19 test. Please, whatever you do, don’t just walk in somewhere and expect to be treated or tested onsite. If you do actually have it, you will put every other patient and their staff at risk.

This is so frustrating to hear. But unfortunately, it seems that that’s what you have to do since the government can’t get its s&$t together. Feel better OP! Drink lots of tea and monitor your temperature.

Basically. I have symptoms and was exposed, they said to stay home and self quarantine.

Have you tested for the actual flu? Keep in mind that is still circulating

Try MAPLE App. Online doc.

Sending hugs, wish I could send you a test! What city are you in?

It really depends on the symptoms... like the flu, if you’re ok they want the hospital beds and medical help for people that are critical. There isn’t a medicine you can take to get better to similar to other things, it’s just if you’re sick, please take care of yourself. Only thing that sucks about this is it goes to other people and depending on their conditions on general health, it can make them very very sick fairly quickly. ^someone very close to me is an ER doctor at one of the cities that had a spike of cases and it’s been brutal on the staff + the amount of time it’s taking them to get to the critical cases is not ideal

What if you don’t have fever but have pneumonia like symptoms?

My ex wife was ranting about the latest season of American Horror Story and I jokingly said something and she responded by stating, as a matter of fact, that Eisenhower negotiated a treaty with Aliens so that in exchange for 5,000 citizens each year, we get peace with Aliens. Hey 🐠, looking for some advice - what’s the best way to approach a conversation with a more junior team member about being out of office frequently? Since they were hired back in May they’ve taken off 1-2 days per week for various reasons (plus 1.5 weeks for vacation)… I understand that things come up, people get sick, etc. but it’s impacting delivery / I never know when they will ping in the morning and say that they won’t be in so I have to have someone else, or me, pick up the slack…

Please remember that there are men married to men, women married to women, and same-gender couples with kids. We exist!
