I have had 3 bosses in my 2.5 years at my agency with a 6 month gap of no boss. No one is looking out for me and my promotion I have been promised. I have a meeting with HR. Help! What do I say?

What agency?

Say exactly what you just wrote. Was your promotion promised in writing? If so, say that too and show them.

I was in the same boat two years ago. I talked to HR three times and nothing. Wasn’t until I got another job offer that they did anything. SMH

Mention this without complaining, if you mention it at all. Leverage how you’ve displayed leadership, organized your fellows and trained juniors and associates. A senior producer for me can run an entire program, and deal with several direct reports while still being in the day to day on high profile projects.

I think it is time to move on. So much writing on the wall: • Multiple bosses within a short time frame • No one listens • Elusive promo (that’s been promised)

Wow are we the same person??? Literally the same thing is happening to me

Had this happen to me as an integrated producer at a traditional agency. Shuffled me around multiple times since they didn’t have a digital Department and I ended up being my own boss (at a junior level 🤦‍♀️). After being stressed out of my mind, I went to HR to ask for mentorship/a boss and they moved me around one last time. Didn’t end up working out and they let me go because of office politics. Make sure you tell them your concerns and have them come up with a plan. If they don’t get back to you, leave.

Come in with a positive mindset, present your achievements despite the lack of mentor ship and management, present a salary survey for your level of experience and achievement and ask for this raise / promotion. Then explain your frustration about the lack of offboarding/onboarding between managers and ask HR if they can help. Be a problem solver and proactive more than frustrated and angry and demand the salary update you are with

That’s very common now. Most creatives that I know that do well change agencies fairly often and get counter offers. I have very few positive HR experiences and I think many of them are there for legal reasons not career building or development. You will need a senior person or new boss to push for you or an offer or both. You have to be willing to walk so consider it carefully. ( don’t bluff an offer you won’t take). It doesn’t hurt to talk to HR but definitely be positive, upbeat and state your case clearly. Remember HR are people that have bosses and parent companies to answer to so it’s not personal.

Had same situation . Had to 'prove myself' to 7 bosses in 5 years . As each agreed I should be promoted they had already locked in their new gig and were out the door. In the end I got laid off because well I had not been promoted in 5 years ....

Don't focus on your lack of boss, focus on everything you've accomplished without needing a solid leader above you

I took a new job in order to move across the country for my husband's promotion and I hate my new job. The role sold to me by the recruiter and company leadership is not at all what I am actually doing. I am so overworked it's unreal. At first I thought that maybe I just sucked, even though I'm a seasoned sales professional with 11 years experience, but then I found out that I have 227 accounts vs the 35 & 64 that my counterparts have. Dumb question, but how do you actually give notice to your firm when lateraling away? Do you email hr, or just tell the partners you work with and assume they'll raise it with the necessary people? Also, is a phone call/email too informal and should I be attempting to try and catch people in person? Thanks in advance. First time lateraling out so not sure on the logistics.

If we have good, free healthcare through spouse’s job (military), is it still worth it to pay for a high deductible plan through my job to get the benefit of an HSA? For context, we are a family of three. The cost of the health care plan just for myself would be $20/paycheck every two weeks (or about $520/year). Cost to add husband or child to the plan is over $200/paycheck (so I know that’s not an option). My thought is it’s not worth it to pay for the plan, but is there another pt of view?
