I was interviewed for a position in Wholesale Banking. Completed the HR round salary discussion too. I haven't heard back from them. It's been a couple of weeks. Update: Had a discussion with HR today, asked for 38 fixed... She was like that's way too much.. i can give only 10% on top of your current offer!!, I was like whaaaat. She told that's how industry works I said ok but I had mentioned that I need 34 as fixed when I was contacted at first. Then later she was like i will comeback on Friday with whatever best I can.

Worked with Morgan Stanley as a client, their tech stack is very old and I echo on the WLB part, its not good.
Check the average salary for the particular role in the company using ambitionbox and glassdoor. You will get some idea on salary bracket.
You don't want to afraid of declining. This is open market - you can ask what you want and they will ask the price they can afford. If both lands on same page then fine... other wise get the offer at good % and try another company using existing offer.
Ask 40+ then settle at 32-35. You need to consider other factors like WLB, Employee welfare, Location flexibility, working hours etc..

34 fixed means 5.1 variable and 1.63 PF and 0.71 Gratuity = 41.4 ..which is very close to my initial comment of 41.52
