I have multiple family members that go to the same CPA for their personal taxes. Sounds like he does a good job. He also has a full time job at a university (professor and university finances). I asked for his contact info and apparently he communicates best over email. And he uses his University email for communication. Anyone else a find that problematic?

Seems a bit odd but would not be really concerned. First question is do you actually need a CPA to do your taxes?

People use accountants for more than just easy returns. Like OP said, one of those is getting that time back. Couple hundred dollars is worth a lot of people's time. Plus, it usually comes with better tax savings/refunds because even easy returns can have things that laypeople don't know are tax beneficial.

Unusual but ok I guess

I see no issue with this unless I’m missing something here

I'm just thinking that I would be emailing over my financial info and his employer(the university) would potentially have access to it. Not sure I want that to happen.

I use my university email for everything formal but not related to work.

More professional than a gmail in my mind I guess

his university email is probably more secure than if he were using a Hotmail account
