I have my 90 day review coming up and I’m unsure if my wage is going to be reviewed and increased. If my manager doesn’t bring it up and I think I’m worthy, how should I approach asking for a raise. As a bit of history I was told at my interview that wage is reevaluated at 90 days, 6 months, and annually.

We have exactly the same process and I let people know in the interviews that there is no increase tied to the 90 day review, as it is more about the evaluation of performance, culture fit, etc., but increases are tied to mid year and annual reviews.

I would ask what data they use to assess if a salary is reviewed. Ie: Is it performance based, is it based on a program such as PayScale, or a combination?

“In light of my new responsibilities, I think a salary bump to [fill in the blank] is fair. I’d like to work with you on what you feel is reasonable.”

I would make sure to bring it up, maybe research ways to bring it into the conversation but make sure you get what you deserve.

First. A 90 day review is a normal part of onboarding and is mostly to understand what you still feel like you need to learn and how you thought onboarding went for them to improve that for others in the future. Because you are newer, I think you could say in your 90 day, “I am interested in learning what the company’s Merit increase policy is as well as the Promotion and Salary Review policy.” That would help you understand how you will be able to obtain an increase in the future.

"I'm wondering about the salary policy because I know that wage is reevaluated at 90 days. What is a standard pay increase at this point?" I would also consider asking about how they typically handle promotions/raises at 6 months and annually. That way you won't have to spend time wondering over the coming months. You'll have a better idea of how you're being evaluated and how your compensation may be affected. Hope this helps!

This is really great advice. Thank you for this.

Looking for Advice: I am an HR Associate at a midsized company. I was just informed that our HR Generalist put in their resignation. My boss (HR Director) let me know that I am going to be taking on more responsibilities (previous responsibilities of the Generalist role). I’m wondering… should I request a role change or ask for a bigger salary/more compensation? What is appropriate in this situation?
Any advice is appreciated. :)

As an experienced, SHRM certified HRBP , I would just like some feedback on your opinion of the differences in the roles between an HRBP an HR Manager besides the obvious that the manager should have direct reports. I am an HRBP and work in step with 3 HRM’s. They all 3 just got out of cycle raises of between 5-20% 😳 and I received nothing. I am quite aware of our HR code that salary is confidential but I was told about this. Would you be looking for other employment? Or stay?
