1. Taking a pay cut and gaining those 2 years of hospital experience should be a no brainer, if you want to be a hospital admin that bad. 2. You have consulting experience from KPMG, that speaks for itself. Now is the time to use your connections and network for a position that interests you. If you have mentors, reach out to them, tell them what you’re interested in and what you are looking for. 3. Also, ask yourself if working in a hospital setting is really what you want considering you have not actually experienced it as a full time job and exactly what do you want to do as an administrator. You could work for a company that helps hospitals make administrative/C-suite decisions instead.

Thank you very much for your helpful input, I appreciate the advice. I’m not too familiar with companies that help hospitals make administrative decisions. Do you mind expanding a bit?

MHA here. Left hospital admin after 7 years for the pay raise. I’m tormented daily. I desperately miss the hospital, but I could never go back for a 40,000 pay cut. I’m miserable consulting. For you, I would go back for the pay cut and happiness.

I was in your shoes after 2.5 years in B4 strategy consulting. Exited to industry strategy role and honestly love how similar it is to consulting (I enjoyed consulting a lot). Got a 60% pay bump as well. The jobs exist, just gotta look for them and make sure they fit your interests and skills.
