I have never switched jobs. What should be my steps to switch to other big 4, acn or IBM? Also I don't have one single competency specialization as I dabbled in different projects over time

For money duh why does anyone want to switch

OP, for a better culture, go to KPMG. For highest pay and prestige, go to Deloitte. For a place to pursue opportunities without constraints from the audit side, go to ACN. Avoid IBM as D1 mentioned; there is very little upside there and salaries are frozen until you get promoted, which happens rarely.

Do not go to IBM. Place is a burning black hole garbage can

Undergrad -Capgemini - ACN- KPMG. Pretty sure everyone knows who I am now 🙈

@IBM 1 I'm not saying I hate IBM, I'm saying the company as a whole has a lot of underlying issues, and I think a lot of it has to do with how big it is, not just in employee size, but in market offering and services as well. The best way I can explain it is IBM is basically an Accenture + multiple ERP companies + a TCS/infosys/Cognizant/Wipro. In addition to this they need to beat Wall Street expectations every quarter. That's not easy and I get that. It's just that you can visibly tell that the company is disjointed and lacks a cohesive vision of what it wants to be. I truly believe that if IBM wasn't at the mercy of Wall Street, it wouldn't have become the disjointed company it is now. And this is where my black whole dumpster fire comment stems from. This corporation is so large and there's so much competition within the groups so that they can beat expectations that ultimately the company doesn't perform an optimal level both to its clients and its own people. The interesting thing is I can see a future in consulting where all the big firms eventually will be like IBM. I mean look at Accenture going to market with the CDO play and Deloitte's own investment in a Products & Solutions group.

Why do you want to switch?

And OP you just apply and interview. Everyone in consulting has more or less the same marketable skills

Different projects all add to experience. You need to look at what skills you gained that help prepare you for your next project. The next project should be a job you want. Anyone can change industries if you have the right skillet.

Go get an MBA. That's a good way to be intellectually stimulated as well as the best way to demand a higher salary at the top firms.

I've switched twice in 4 years and make 1.5x as much out of undergrad now

K2 where did you come from?

Damn the hate at IBM -- btw 3 promotions in 6 years here

Every firm should promote you every 2 years if you're good. Except pwc

Thanks for the responses everyone. Sorry, I was out hiking for the weekend so couldn't respond to the questions.

1. I want to switch for a better role and access to better projects. Feel intellectually stagnated where I am right now. But yes it's about the money also. 2. Been with EY 2.5 years (am a SC now). Have industry experience also. 3. Have a master's but not a MBA 4. I am not sure if it would really help to get referred by folks who don't work in the same sector or competency that I want to get into ?

@op what's your base?
