I have no idea what I want to do after PA but I know I don’t want to be here and I want nothing to do with financial reporting. I love being client serving and making people happy. Help?

If you still want to use your CPA, you could try another service line like Tax or TAS. If you want out of PA completely and still want to be client serving, then you have to think about other types of careers. I recommend going through a process where you work to figure out what you like and don’t like about your job. What excites you or gives you fulfillment? What frustrates you? What are your medium and long term goals in life (career, personal, financial, etc)? Try reading some career books like “Strength Finder” and take the assessment. It was eye-opening to me and helped me look for positions that would play to my strengths which gives me more satisfaction. Bottom line, understand yourself first and then you will be able to figure out what to do.

Thanks for the input EY1! I do want to continue to use my CPA. You can bet I’ll put your advice to use

Stripper. All about client service. 😉

I knew I’d get these kind of comments. But please? I really don’t know all that is out there, first generation college grad and I don’t know what I can’t see or have never been exposed to. All I know are the clients I work with and auditing. I know there has to be more out there for a CPA.

What about something sales related since you like client service? You could be a real estate agent. You can learn it on the side and get your certifications before you leave EY. My SIL did that and has had a wonderful and happy career as an agent.

I’m new to the firm. My third project my manager was very hands off. He’s wants to have a discussion with me about my performance. He did not give me any support to work with; even when I asked! I’m relatively new at my company, and I have a business person (whom I have already worked on a project with) that won’t respond to me. I sent a few emails to her over the last 3 weeks, then messaged her on teams on Monday without response. I really need her help. Any advice outside of cc’ing the supervisor (or maybe that’s the only advice)?

This is probably a dumb question but if you are on a local project, do you still get a per diem?

I think the question I’ve gotten most in interviews is, “What’s your process?” And I’m never quite sure how to answer. Maybe because it depends so much on the ask/project. I’m curious how other people go about this one.

Currently an A3 in audit. My team communicated to me that they’re pushing for me to get mid-year promo (Jan 2022) but I’m also interested in leaving to another Big 4 for AAS as an S1. Current salary is $73.6k and am unsure of how much I should be going for to make the jump worth it. I know EY FAAS offered a friend $85k in my market but assuming I get mid year promo I’m not so sure the salary bump would be significant enough. How much room for negotiation is there with Big 4 experienced hires?

Or is the lesson cycle one that begins on the first day you teach in person for each group? This second model seems complicated.
