If you still want to use your CPA, you could try another service line like Tax or TAS. If you want out of PA completely and still want to be client serving, then you have to think about other types of careers.
I recommend going through a process where you work to figure out what you like and don’t like about your job. What excites you or gives you fulfillment? What frustrates you? What are your medium and long term goals in life (career, personal, financial, etc)? Try reading some career books like “Strength Finder” and take the assessment. It was eye-opening to me and helped me look for positions that would play to my strengths which gives me more satisfaction.
Bottom line, understand yourself first and then you will be able to figure out what to do.
Thanks for the input EY1! I do want to continue to use my CPA. You can bet I’ll put your advice to use
Stripper. All about client service. 😉
I knew I’d get these kind of comments. But please? I really don’t know all that is out there, first generation college grad and I don’t know what I can’t see or have never been exposed to. All I know are the clients I work with and auditing. I know there has to be more out there for a CPA.
What about something sales related since you like client service? You could be a real estate agent. You can learn it on the side and get your certifications before you leave EY. My SIL did that and has had a wonderful and happy career as an agent.
