I have one year of big 4 experience. When I was applying for a company they are asking me for my SAT score. Do you think this is a red flag?

I applied to a company with many roughneck employees (so high school education only). It was just a standard application. I made sure the application indicated my guess at what my score was 20 years ago. It was not a big deal.

I remember a lot of investment banks asking for ACT and SAT scores when I was applying for internships in college. I've also heard of investment banks asking applicants for their GMAT scores when applying for internships during their MBA. This is the only industry I've heard of this being a thing.

Your SAT score? Like the exam we all took like junior year of highschool?

To each his own, but in my view this is a red flag. It says to me the organization is extremely antiquated in their processes, and may provide an initial indication of 1) the personality types of people who work at this organization, 2) the quality of talent, 3) a representation how HR and or recruiting “thinks” and applies policies across the organization, and/or 4) how sophisticated (or lack thereof) the company’s ERP and GTM approach is. Regarding point #3, do you want to have to bring a doctor’s note to work when you were out sick? Do you want to have to go through a formal and potentially exhaustive approval process simply to work from home on a random Friday? That’s just some of the antiquated protocol an organization from 30 years ago may have adopted, and asking for SAT scores for experienced hires with college degrees is certainly an indication you’re dealing with a behind the terms org.

I agree, sounds like a red flag.

Yes

In college I applied for a position at a company that auto-rejected my application because my SAT score was below 2200.... wut

If this is the only issue you are concerned about and you like the culture, the people and the possible career trajectories I’d say don’t worry about the question too much, Amazon famously asks everyone this question of everyone they interview for non warehouse type positions.

One guy randomly asked me both my SAT/ACT and LSAT scores in an interview. And then he was surprised I didn’t remember them! Lol I took them at least 10-15 years ago and haven’t even thought of them since.

like

What about your Bar score lol

I mean, the SAT is a quasi iq test. With so little work experience it seems somewhat reasonable. Would think a college degree would be enough though.

PwC lives matter!

Seems weird lol, not sure if it’s a red flag. Its probably just some standard outdated application question. I doubt most people remember their SAT score, or would even know where to find it.

like

5 years out of college, I don’t even remember my GPAs, ACT/SAT scores, etc. I literally have only remembered a few course and sometimes I referenced back to notes and exams from those courses when figuring things out.

like

lol this seems odd. I went to community college for 2 years and then transferred to finish out my degree, I never took the SAT.

Lolllllll

Is anyone feeling old thinking about how long ago SAT/ACT was? 15 years for me 😂

like

Lol never been asked to give any potential employer my SAT scores. If SAT scores were the only criteria used to evaluate job performance, I would be a partner by now :p

Weird flex

funny

Not necessarily. It depends on the role you’re applying for.

Is this an entry level opportunity that doesn't even require college?

In the early stages of Amazon, Bezos wanted to know the SAT score of every candidate he interviewed.

I don’t even remember taking the SAT let alone my score.

I’ve been asked as well, it was because I was going for PE firms and research roles so they wanted my SAT scores. I think it’s ridiculous

Yes. Unless the pay is astronomically high.

Astronomical pay is not necessary enough to offset the level of weirdness that's happening there...

funny

Yes do not go there that’s a new low I have never heard of.
