I have serious migraine due to lack of sleep and think I can’t handle travel any more. Currently on a travel project. How should I bring up that conversation with my team? Is it an end of my career?

I would start by finding out the root cause of the problem (lack of sleep) and proposals on how your project team could address them. Example: 1. Waking up early Monday morning could be addressed by the project team offering flexibility to come in a bit later or flying in previous night if you have morning meetings. 2. Early morning / late night meetings if you are working in a global team could be changed to make sure you don’t end up staying up late and waking up early the next morning. 3. Sleep quality in hotels could be addressed by may be changing to Hotels that offer quieter rooms like W or Westin. 4. If your project needs you to put in long hours, this is probably a discussion you need to have with your team in terms of what you can commit for the project without adversely impacting your health and sleep.

Since you signed up for travel at the onset... doesn’t sound like good look. Take a few days off and rest and see how you feel afterwards.

I feel the same way about current travel project and have been on the verge of quitting with no notice. Staffing is not helpful, though my performance manager (not current project manager) has been trying to help. Currently thinking to apply for unpaid leave ... just sucks it involves a lot of notice and I’d to have to explain everything to everyone.

Not the end. There are plenty of things you can do for internal support without travel for mental health. Ask for an internal role or non travel remote support for your current engagement. I haven’t yet been on an engagement where I wasn’t asking myself why the fuck are all of us here... So own your health, ask for what you need. This is all assuming you’ve been doing good work. If your team hates your work, then their response may be aloof or oblivious. If you got respect from your team, you’ll get support.

Transitioned into consulting post-MBA (1.5 years ago) and generally enjoyed the experience. Since I joined my comp has gone up ~13% and I’ve liked my project teams but in my most recent review talk my partner told me he thought I was ready to be promoted and had advocated for me but there was an HR rule against it and I was on-track to be promoted in 6 months. Since then I’ve learned that one of my classmates (started 2-3 months before me due to COVID) was promoted last cycle.

How do you get your partners to provide feedback? I’m a senior associate and feel like I have been stagnant in my career lately. I’m not learning new skills and not getting any additional responsibilities. I have a hard time getting my partners to review the work I do for them and often by the time they do, they’ve changed the scope of assignments or decided they no longer need it. Everything I do lately feels like I have just wasted my time and the client’s money

Hey there! I work in a mid-size full service agency with a growing marketing team. We currently don't have a CD due to our size and current client portfolio, but that's a role I'd love to step into when the time is right and my management is on board with that. Any advice on how to prepare for that kind of role without changing agencies? Or anyone open to mentoring me? I'd love to learn from a CD or ACD to see what they're doing and what I can bring without leaving my team!

My full time job (not SMU) is literally making me sick-spent time at the ER. If I quit, how hard is it to find a new job?

Newbie question… Am I allowed to bill for reading internal emails about a matter? But will the client pay for my time just reading emails? If so, what’s the best way to phrase this?
