No - talk to a therapist
Do you know what’s causing the anxiety/depression? If it’s something work related you think they can help change then yes. If you are over the role, account, company, industry etc. I’d say audit what’s making you tick and then personally make the necessary change (ie find a new job, switch accounts, etc).
I’ve struggled with this before and usually going to a manager turns into a vent session, which is always healthy but doesn’t always influence change
(Said non-pejoratively! I talk to a therapist about my work anxiety too )
Agree with other posters. You need to have a full understanding of the root of your anxiety. And identity things you can do to help. Your manager won’t be able to help you otherwise
Have you been diagnosed? Please see a therapist if you haven't yet. Do not self diagnose or throw those heavy terms around or tell yourself that. Maybe it's not as bad and either way, please get professional help first. I wouldn't talk at work about it until then.
Speaking with a therapist may help you get to the root of what’s bothering you. It’s a high pressure position, but there are ways to cope with anxiety and stress that a good therapist can help you through. I can relate and have been through this too. Hang in there.
I’d also say - exercise, yoga and meditation are game changers for me.
Also, have you seen a doctor or practitioner to have your thyroid checked? Thyroid and thyroid imbalance cause panic and anxiety. Believe me, I can relate as I had an anxiety attack this morning. Sure, my work is stressful, but not to the level I was feeling (I was crying on my way to work). I ended up calling a naturopath I see who recommended supplements to help my thyroid and the feelings of panic and anxiety I was feeling.
I wouldn’t bring it up unless 1) it becomes an apparent problem at work that needs to be addressed/explained or 2) you have something actionable they can do to help relieve this anxiety. I ended up recently telling my boss that I was having anxiety problems because it was noticeably impacting my performance & he asked if I was ok. We had a really productive conversation because luckily I had already been trying to sort out the root of the issue and what would best alleviate the anxiety. Not all bad to share but not necessarily something you want to lead with :)
Checking in here. How are u doing? Things any better? Have you found someone to talk to?
HR can we useful here too if you need guidance and support services. At my agency there is a benefit where you get 8 free therapy sessions each year with any therapist in the city.
HR first, if you haven't spoken to a therapist. I'd say bring it up to your supervisor if you have that kind of relationship but if you're relatively new to the position, HR is your first step
If you are close with your boss, don’t be afraid to bring it up. Sometimes there are work triggers that ideally you can work through vs avoid. Work should offer EAP ( employee assistance program ) which offers free therapy as they said above. Always helps to talk to someone. Also see your primary doctor to make sure it’s not something like hyperthyroid or something that requires medicine. If you can, download a meditation app and meditate before work and before sleep. I know that some don’t feel it’s profession to bring this up to your boss. But o feel that mental health is more important than physical health. If you were sick with the flu, you would say something. I hope this gets better. But if not I’m willing to connect with you personally to help
