It’s a 100% valid feeling. Don’t feel bad because you need to ask for help. Sounds like there’s a lot of pressures to perform in your manager’s absence + b school sponsorship.
Who are you delivering to? Clients or internal?
We are often our worst critics. You are likely being too hard on yourself because you have a few things riding on your performance. You may be overthinking it.
My advice is to trust yourself. Trust that you have done well enough to be in proximity to a C-suite exec. You know how to perform your tasks well and without supervision. You keep at it as if he was there.
With that said, I am with KPMG, don't shy away from asking for some guidance from more senior members of your team or even a peer of your boss. There is nothing wrong with asking for some feedback or asking for some hints here and there.
We are rooting for you!
Also, hit the gym like it stole something! When it comes to work-related stress, we must fight fire with fire.
Thank you I appreciate your advice!
Here goes nothing. I am an IC and pride myself in being independent and getting things done without help. My manager is basically in the C-Suite, so it’s hard to ask for help when there is such a large gap in experience between me and him. He is now on paternity leave so I am left with doing all this work, but now he is basically unreachable. I just feel so much anxiety and knowing I will come up short. I need to be on everyone’s good side because I am applying to bschool this year and need a good LOR. On top of that, I am studying almost 2-3 hours a day trying to get my test done.

Well hopefully there’s others at your company to turn to. And hopefully they are sympathetic to the situation. Given they know your manager is on paternity. Might help to book some 1-on-1s with people? Start networking outside of your team?
Thank you! I will consider this
Also it sounds like there is a significant difference in experience and responsibility between you and your manager. No one in their right mind can reasonable expect the same amount of output from you as they do your manager. If they do that’s absurd.
Yes, my boss has about 10 more years of experience than me. I have major impostor syndrome even though I am 5 years out of undergrad given the environment and the fact that I’m usually the most junior in the room.
