I have sponsorship from my consulting firm (tuition, requires 3 year commitment, definitely does not pay like MBB/T2). I got a 60k scholarship from Kellogg, should I just consider making a move to MBB/T2?

Yes. Onward and upward.

I think the point here is to figure out what your career goals look like (hopefully essay writing helped!). If you see yourself staying with your current firm in the long run, and or believe returning there will give you the same upside for target exits, etc, then sure. Otherwise - if you believe MBB/T2 is either where you want to end up or will help you get there easier , if you recruit successfully for t2/MBB, I would imagine the difference in salary makes up for the reimbursement reasonably quickly, especially with the scholarship.

I wouldn’t look at it as burning bridges. The partners and directors that supported you as you built your case for sponsorship should continue to support you no matter which direction you end up taking. Otherwise, these were not meaningful connections.

They are sponsoring you to take off 2 years off of work?

Yep full time

Hey op - my thought would be to go through recruiting - it’s good practice anyway to do the case stuff, etc., and you’ll get a good look at culture fit and work at these other firms - you don’t know what you don’t know at this point. If / when you get offers, you can evaluate if you think you’ll get a similar experience for lots more pay - it’s totally fine to follow the money. Remember, you’re a resource to them, too - so do what’s best for you!. You can be respectful and grateful without having to sublimate your needs over theirs. Go and explore! There’s no commitment in recruiting and you can always turn down the offers.

Thanks for such thoughtful advice Kearney1! Really appreciate this

Is consulting as advertised when it comes to career acceleration? Personally, I am starting to doubt it. It feels like the skill sets are a bit dated and the world has moved on. Also, we get put on so many random engagements it’s hard to build tangible skills. I am talking big 4, MBB is a different game.
