I added the Amex Gold to my Chase duo, to get the 4x points on restaurants and grocery stores. Here’s how I try to maximize points with all three:
This is a cool list. I’d add that my mix is the CSR plus Amex Blue Preferred (6% for groceries and 4% for gas) and Capital One Savor (4% at restaurants). The fee on both is under $100. What else do you like about the Amex Gold?
My friend has a blog (and workshops) that talks about how to maximize points. She has a whole formula behind how she uses etc. www.traveltoolstips.com
Do you travel frequently? I would suggest getting one if you do (<3-4 personal trips/yr). Business trips also add up nicely on it. I have the CSR
I use my Amex platinum more like a travel insurance card. Since I fly United frequently, I love the chase point transfer and it transfers super fast.
If you travel very often by plane greater than 4 times per year, then the rewards can be very worth it for the Amex.
Capital one venture x is a good one to apply.
I have a chase sapphire preferred card. I have never used the points but this summer we are going to Italy and I’m going to cash them in on the flight. Can I use the points on any airline, or just the ones thru the chase site? The flights on the chase site seem more expensive than the ones I found not on the chase site.
I believe you can also transfer em to specific airlines if you see good points values for flights there. Look at The Points Guy website for some intel on strategies.
