What is your question? Take the job you’re excited about what’s the issue here?
My question would be - can you make partner remotely? If not, then can you get the experience as an associate remotely that you’ll need to start you’re own firm?
The main concern people have with full time remote is that they won’t be able to climb the ladder. I know you aren’t a lifer, but you may need to have experience as a partner somewhere before starting your own shop, and you may not be able to get that experience remotely.
But I’m trying to find the downside- sounds like a good opportunity otherwise.
It’s hard to say about partner prospects, depends on firm. It’s going to be harder for sure but making partner is more in your hands than someone else’s. You are the one who is responsible for generating business in order to be considered for partner.
You don’t need experience as a partner to hang your own shingle. Plenty of people don’t. Some are morons and some are incredible lawyers. Doesn’t come down to whether they have past experience as a partner. I say go for it because it sounds like you don’t have much to lose and a lot to gain, but you’re right to be asking yourself these questions.
I have a completely remote position. I love it. My previous position was in-house. I do not waste time/gas/money on commuting. I actually do more work but I spend a lot less time sitting in front of the computer. I have spent a few months of the year in another state, I just take my laptop and go. I work very closely with the partners and do not feel that not being in the same location has affected that. We talk on Teams daily on matters, as needed, and meet up every few months for lunch. When I interviewed, I thought it was too good to be true, but I took the chance anyway. It is the best thing that has ever happened for me. I may have just gotten lucky, and I do not have a big law salary. However, I can do whatever I want, whenever I want, from wherever I want, as long as things get done. That is so valuable to me.
Are you doing state specific stuff?
