I have to borrow around 10k l. I can sell stocks (have more than enough in my brokerage) but don't to realize cap gains. Any downside of a personal loan? I've heard that that can lower the credit score. I have about 750.

Borrow against the brokerage portfolio. I think I just got a cold offer at like 2% to do the same.

This is the right answer. Seems right out of the “I have wealth” playbook.

Remember the wealthy typically seek to minimize their income, and realizing those gains would increase your income.

Loans don’t hurt your credit unless you miss payments.

like

This. They might actually help your credit score

Context: no other debt. All credit cards are paid in full by month end.

Borrow for how long? Can you tax loss harvest? The market is pretty high right now. I’d probably just take it from the brokerage.

Some credit cards allow you to take out the credit line in the form of a personal loan - it generally has lower interest rates. I know Chase and Citi have both sent me info on this option recently

If you talk to your bank they may also offer you a loan secured by your stock holdings with an even lower rate

I’m guessing you’re trying to pay back a sign on/retention bonus?

Nah. Helping family with some unexpected expense

Open a new zero balance cc and use one of the zero interest convenience checks. You'll pay a fee of 3% or 5%.

I took personal loans from alliant credit union for super low interest 2x and it actually brought my credit up once I paid them in full.

I recently changed jobs and my new 401K provider - Principal has very limited MF investment options. My prior employer’s 401K was managed by Fidelity and provided me access to a range of MF options. I believe that the fund options are negotiated by the employer and provider? Two questions. First - I have not rolled over my previous 401K to the new one. Would there be any problems. Second - is there a way I could move my current 401K to another (precious) provider?

I work full time at a high paying stressful job. My spouse decided unilaterally to "retire" at 55 years old. We do not have savings for retirement so I work. I have had cancer 2X and am healthy now, but the stressful job wears me out. I want my husband to contribute more financially. Am I wrong?
