Q7 hands down. Huge car, very practical and comfortable. Fits 3 car seats in middle row as opposed to many others in that segment (in case of a 3rd kid). Also better resale value (at least in EU).
Volvo XC90
Is better!
Subaru - you can get a fully loaded brand new for less and hands down will have lower maintenance costs.
Between the 2 - Q7 but get the extended warranty. I would look at Acura and Lexus (used) if you want less maintenance costs.
If you’re not looking for driving engagement (and your probably not if you’re looking at a Cherokee and Q7), Lexus IS a great way to go. Great reliability, great dealership service, great MPGs, great materials/touchpoints, really hard to go wrong
An Audi dealer is substantially better service than a Jeep Dodge Ram Chrysler dealer. People always forget to consider this
Also big time assumed your buying a CPO from an Audi dealer
Anything Toyota will hold its value and is super reliable - check out the 4Runner limited
Yea fuel economy for a true 4wd vehicle is always pitiful.
Lots going on mechanically with a transmission, transfer case, two diffs and driveshafts. All those gears, bearings, and fluid create a lot of drivetrain power losses.
Also agreed with Subaru. The safety features are pretty impressive.
I’ve never heard of someone in between a grand Cherokee and a q7. Totally different brands and sizes. Do you need a third row? Do you care about German luxury? You okay with having them in the shop every other month? If you’re looking for a good value, reliable suv with a third row, I’d go for the highlander or pilot/mdx. If you only need 2 rows, you have many options. I like the x3, but there are many choices. You should drive the rdx, rx, q5. If you really want a Jeep, go for a wrangler. Not so comfortable. But very fun especially if your kids are into it
Thanks. I love everything about Q7 including the interior design of Audi. That’s probably why my dilemma didn’t make sense. Which one do you refer to for having in the shop every other month? Is it Q7 because it will be a used car?
What about a used BMW X5 (F15, so 2014 -2018)? You can get a pretty low mileage, pretty loaded 35i for right around 40k
^ big brain boy over here. X5 is lovely. 35i gets great power and mileage too
You should consider a Porsche macan
Amazing ride with a lot to offer; unfortunately space isn’t it’s strong suit...
How about VW Atlas? Same platform as Q7 and for $40k you get a fairly well equipped model
I’d consider a slightly used Grand Cherokee, resale is poor with that model.
New Grand Cherokee is at the end of its lifecycle (current models have been out since 2011). They are pretty solid for just getting around in, however the dynamics between it and a Q7 will be very different. Recommend providing some attributes you value (reliability, prestige, off road ability, etc.) to the group so they can make some recommendations based on your preferences (instead of theirs).
We currently have a compact SUV but we need more space with the kids. That’s why started to look for a normal or large SUV. So I would say safety and space are top priorities
We live in NJ so we have some snow but we don’t go off road.
Reality is all of these are boring and glorified minivans. Chose the one with the best creature comforts. Outside of that. Keep your expectations low.
I’d go for a Kia Telluride for $40k
But it’s ugly as hell
I know grand cherokees look nice and I consider them the standard upper middle class dad car. But at the end of the day, Jeep=Daimler/Chrysler =trash. Check out consumer reports for further details. Meanwhile the Q7 is one of the top ranked midsize SUVs
Thank you everyone for comments. I will check Subaru, Lexus and Toyota as well
Don’t like Honda/Acura? The pilot and MDX are good options for performance and reliability. The pilot is a bit boring to look at but it drives really nicely (not like a truck at all).
Would actually say new Atlas R
Between the two, Q7 with Audi care plus. However, the Lexus GX is also a comfortable option. I’ve seen them over $10k off recently, and you can’t beat Lexus reliability
