I have two questions for the community about Rolex. Q1: Focusing just on inherent quality (don’t care about resale value, prestige, etc), do you think they are a good value? On the one hand, they are very accurate, durable, and have a great history. On the other, since you’re paying for the brand name, other brands should theoretically be providing the same at less cost. Also it’s undeniable that the real cost of a Rolex has increased far faster than the tech improvements. What do you think?

Rolex is the pinnacle of mass produced luxury, and their timelessness is a testament to the overall ethos of the company. Their “scarcity” is manufactured, but for good reason. It keeps them desirable. Going up-market from Rolex gets you hand-finishing, but it does not make the watches any “better”. The “haute horology” brands are often objectively more beautiful, but few perform consistently better. Above Rolex, you cross over from “tool” to “art”. Rolex manages to tip-toe the line by having refined their designs over decades. Not everything they do is a winner, but they have more “home runs” than any other brand. Once you realize what Rolex offers, it almost looks like their prices are a bargain (and for certain watches, this is reflected in the secondary market price). In my opinion, there isn’t a more “wearable” and complete watch than a Rolex.

This is great info and very convincing! Was never really sold on the Nautilus/RO/Overseas anyway, but for some reason had thought the COSC-certified microbrand offerings were better than perhaps they actually are. No doubt they are great, but seems like Rolex still brings a lot extra to the table. Thanks for all the replies!

I think there’s very few brands that have achieved such timeless designs as the Datejust, Submariner or Daytona, to name just those. You’re paying for a watch that’s going to last for decades both technically and in terms of its style. And, good or bad, they’re very recognizable even by non-watch people. Speaking just personally, the Rolex sports watches don’t do much for me because I’d rather have something cheaper for a sports watch, but my next promotion I’m getting a forever/heirloom watch and that’s going to be a Datejust.

Thanks for the reply! So seems like the value for you is in the style / rich heritage? While ofc also being generally good quality. I get that- am also considering a DJ at some point in the future.

I currently have an offer for Citi as a Lead Cyber Investigator position & I was just granted an interview w/ Amazon as a security engineer - operations. Citi pretty much gave me everything I’m asking for, but I feel like the Amazon would be a great opportunity for me, but also the timing may be way too long to wait while already having an offer? What would be the best way to approach this?

Ladies & Gentlemen, with one month left in Q2, some will fall short of our numbers. Others will hit them. I can’t speak for all of us here, however, I can speak for myself. That being said, I will NOT be one that comes up short of my number. Now, this leads me to you all, to present a question. If you have to prospect, if you’re looking for new business, is it worth $1500 to put 95% of your prospecting process on autopilot? If so, let’s chat.
