I have worked 2 years as an HR Generalist for a large tech company. My position is HR but it is seen more as a glorified customer service position (call center). It has become unbearable & every opportunity I have taken for internal movement has been denied. I was offered a less stressful & more flexible HR temp position with less pay. My goal is to change HR career to a new field. Any recommendations I can take to set myself up for a change in career from HR to sales?

Hello- -I've been involved in the world of work for many years and totally understand the frustration you're experiencing in your current HR role. Professionally, I've reinvented my company (Recruitment Marketing & Retention ad agency) and myself a few times over the last few years, so I would be happy to offer you some tips. Sales/New Business Development is one of the few fields where your past technical and/or job-related skills are not as much a pre-requisite for your desired career change. Sales, Marketing & Training has been my primary focus for pretty much my entire career- -and I can safely say that the keys for success will be your relationship/people skills, drive, and determination, and persistence to succeed. I've seen many career-changers do very well in selling with the previously mentioned qualities- -yet no previous sales-oriented jobs or experience. On a higher level, Selling is all about People & Communications, which I'm sure you have a lot of experience with. Best of luck to you on this exciting journey. Jordan

I was recently promoted to a new position at my company. I'm so excited to be taking on this new challenge, but it's not going as well as I had hoped.

I've been given a lot of responsibilities, which is great. But I don't feel like any of them are being prioritized or delegated appropriately. I'm getting a lot of pressure from my manager, who is quite demanding and doesn't seem to understand that I need time to get things done and learn new skills.

If you’ve decided you just don’t like practicing law, especially after several jobs, what have you done to leave? Do you feel compelled to use your JD in some way because, “well, I already got it”? Or are you okay moving in an entirely new direction?
I’m thinking of starting a new business unrelated to law. The JD and practice experience will obviously come in handy with typical business management issues like negotiating and enforcing contracts, basic HR issues, etc. (Cont. in comments)

I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?
2) are there any good Canadian MBA programs you'd recommend?

Thank you all!

Interested in any opinions, I have been with my company now for almost a year and have been interviewing with a company that I am pretty sure I will get. I like my current company but because it’s a consultant company and is based on work coming in I found myself not having much work for almost the entire time I’ve been there. Should I take the new position that will be a 20k jump in salary or stay with this company? Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Graduated from Babson College (MA, US) in 2014. Became passionate about the tech industry during my SY. Came back home (I don’t live in the US) and worked for a family member for four years (non-tech). Left in 2018, started working on my first startup (TravelTech). Shelved in March 2020 due to Covid. Huge pivot - started working on my second startup (DeliveryTech). Failed, wrong market.

What’s my next move? I’m thinking about grad school + working in the US post graduation. Cheers!

Hi all,

In the summer of 2021 I finished my BBA and started working since then. As a personal achievement, I would like to do a master's degree as well (although I am not sure in what). Since master's degrees are in general quite an expensive step to take, I was thinking of asking my company to sponsor me.

When it comes to trainings my company reimburses them, but I have to pay upfront. What are you experiences with sponsoring/masters while working? And do you have any tips?

Cheers
