I haven't seen the discussion on this topic yet so thought of starting one & try to find what others think.

Is Agile work model really unnecessarily pressuring the developers/designers/testers. I have seen my elder brother/sisters who started IT career in 2006-07 or nearby & were so happy due to which I also attracted towards IT career. Later on with my experience I came to know that I have been working in Agile since starting & they were working on waterfall which doesn't pressurise employee

I am also working in agile mode for last couple of years. But we never faced any kind of pressure except during the initial days when this was a totally new concept for us. We give our estimations very clearly on the basis of the complexity of the user story assigned and in case if required need to give proper justification to the client for the pointers asked for the stories. So far my whole team is doing great job with minimal spill. Also, we feel really lucky that our client is also very understanding.

like

Yeah, you are right there. It is great when a client is understanding and with a little technical understanding also. But if client is only known Agile as a tool of producing something every 2 weeks then, won't it be a problem.

I liked the point where someone says service based companies taking unnecessary advantage of wrong billing which make sense to me.

If the expectations are not set right and issues not talked about in Agile then surely Scrum hasn't been implemented well enough.

Support means ticket level tasks... production issues and promotion of deliverables to next environment. etc .no scratch development

Waterfall model is not sustainable and service based orgs were cheating their clients out of money.

Imagine a project following waterfall model is being worked on for 6 months with nothing to show to the clients. After 6 months, when it’s time for demo, the client says that this was not what they expected and it’s drags on for another few months. These managers were adding support cost, testing cost on top of the already extended timelines.

Agile is a much better model of it is executed correctly. The 2 most important persons are the Product owner and the Lead IC. They have to determine what comes into every sprint and what would be the delivery.

Scrum masters should be there just to create stories, manage the sprint and collect metrics without deviating much from the original plan.

If scrum masters ‘manage’ the dev and testers, there is something seriously wrong with the project.
Also, scrum masters aren’t paid more than tech team for similar experience level.

Do people really give up their personal life because of busy season?

I don't have a long tenure in this career as a senior, but I've never seen that much people actually working on weekends more than half of the day.

I've personally never worked more than 4 hours on weekends, but I always managed to get 55~65 hours packed on my timesheet.

Are people just saving up work for weekends?

I am on an engagement that has 2 managers. I enjoy working with 1 manager. He is very understanding and provides feedback/guidance. However, the other belittles me. She is constantly asking “why” and even when I am not sure of the response she keeps pressuring. She provides no actual information for me to learn from. Not sure if I should correct her on how she should speak to me. Or if I should jump ship & ask not to be on this engagement. still new so i am not stuck on this team yet.

Thanks a lot in advance 🐠 family!

First year family law associate..I only have 1160 billable hours done for the year (I’m including what I expect to bill in December as well). Given I only make $80,000 a year, is that reasonable? Or is that a super low number and should I expect to be fired soon 😂. My target billables is supposed to be 1680 a year. Also my hourly rate is only $109 because all we do is legal aid here.

Hi Fishes, need help from someone from cloud/networking industry.
I work as QA engineer in cloud network management based project which also involves python automation. My question is, is it a good option to progress in cloud-automation path or jump to wireless network testing (which i was doing previously) which involves only manual protocol testing work. Which would be better in terms of growth. Thanks in advance
