How does JD get away with this? Why do people go? Is it just the folks with JD being the only offer? Presumably if you are good enough to get a JD offer you might have an option at a “lower tier” firm that pays market + bonuses or close to market + bonuses. Just genuinely curious why people go.

How does one stay motivated at JD with no bonus at the end as a prize ? Also are the hours similar to how K&E is?

like

This is all commentary applicable to major markets. If you’re in Cleveland, JD is still a good option. I don’t think anyone pays market there, and JD starts at $210k

Very much agree with both SA2 and A2 on this

Tbh what difference does it make whether or not they do bonuses. They are complete black box so no one knows what anyone else is making or what the base is. Just avoid it.

Sick burn. Loved it.

Former jd. No bonus. Your compensation is supposed to make you whole … but in many cases it doesn’t

likesmartfunny

Former JD here. Confirmed no bonuses. There are yearly raises but based on Cravath scale, to date, it does not make you whole. Also, people obviously still talk about their yearly raises even though it’s supposed to be kept secret. I can confirm there are lines drawn and certain people get more than others for unexplainable reasons (sometimes based solely on practice group). If it would be helpful, I can give a specific example

Yes, please share an example.

Jones Day is great for small markets because they still pay your big market salary.

Not true. The recent litigation made it clear they stiff smaller market associates and only match for year 1

Geniuses can you please share some ideas/creative ways to track the following.. Case: have around 25 companies and associated info. Ideally I’d like my columns to be |comp name | contact name| contact email |etc, but the issue is I need to track when people leave a company, can’t delete the data. Rn I have 1 sheet holding comp info, another, contact info.
