I hear transitioning at the M/EM level at MBB & OW is a nightmare. Is it the same for S& and EYP? Curious if it’s just this level where it is hard to switch firms.

Should be okay if you are joining from another consulting firm (having similar pace / fake sense of urgency) or boomeranging after a few years of break from consulting.

It's the level of peak heavy lifting, so expectations are high to perform under tight timelines. The situation is same across all consulting firms.

If you come from strategy consulting background, then no. Otherwise yes, OW sometimes hires EM from the industry who is not used to consulting environment.

Not always, there are people been in the industry for years and I would say they don't have the 'mindset', tend to overpromise but underdeliver.

I mean it is, but for good reason. It’s kind of your “trial” to make partner.

S& perspective here - depends on where you’re coming from and past experience. In general, unless you’re from a similar firm (in which case I’d question why you’re bothering to switch in the first place), I’d recommend SA rather than Manager.

Yea, I'm not sure 4 YOE will land an M role at any of these firms.

Thanks everyone for the insightful perspectives. For context, I’m going to be an M1 at Accenture Strategy with 4 YOE. Feel like I have a great network in my practice and across the firm and have a good shot at MD down the road because of the strong backing I have at the firm. Feel under compensated (~200k) for talent and wanted to evaluate how lateral M/EMs transitioned and general success rate getting to partner. Your responses have been very helpful. Thank you!

OP, having heard from a few personal friends who did the same move from Accenture Strategy to Bain and BCG, please expect your first year to be very steep learning curve. Having said so, my friends joined at pre-EM level, which is likely the case when you shifted from M in Accenture Strategy to MBB. It's a downgrade in title but comp-wise, it's not too far away, to the best of my knowledge.

Marriage or promotion 😞 I’m on track to make partner at my company. Due to the audit services we sell, we have to disclose all financial relationships, including those of our SOs. I’m engaged to a private investor, and there is no way he is going to disclose/sell investments because my company tells him to (I don’t blame him; I wouldn’t do this, in his position, either). This means I have to quit if I want to marry him 😞 Anyone else experience this kind of compromise / challenge? Any advice?
