I hope most of you are aware of your children’s behavior and raise them better than this .... see below my experience yesterday with a young male about 16-20 years old.

I’m going to assume they were southern and white? If so, it’s typical of the white angry male syndrome we see often. 🤔

Seriously. Absurd. Comment.

I was walking my dog down my usual road/route in a less developed area and had just returned to where I park. Some teens (4) had been zooming around on 4 wheeler ATVs, going up and down the ATV trail alongside the road, occasionally crossing over onto the paved road (with other vehicles around) and onto paved bike trails. As they went ripping past me on the road I took a video - kind of "kids having fun on a Saturday in a small town”; I didn’t really care they were on the road even though it's illegal to ride them on the road or bike trails. That wasn’t even on my mind. Just kids having fun. That’s exactly how I grew up in a similar small town. One older teen glanced over his shoulder and saw my phone out. He pulled a u-turn and came tearing back to where I was standing. Him - “why did you take a picture of us? You got us on the road? Did you get me on the trail? I was on the trail!” Me (quite startled): “no harm intended. You guys looked like you were having fun and I took a pic that’s all. I can delete it. No big deal. Sorry. “ Him - “you f**king bitch! I was on the trail!” Me - “hey, I am deleting it. No big deal.” Him- leans over, looks at my license plate and says...."You’re just trying to get us in trouble. Watch out. I’ll remember you.” Gives me the finger and yells “f**k ypu bitch”.... The teen girl (looked like his sister) on the back of the 4 wheeler looked embarrassed I was calm through the whole thing. He was hyper aggressive and shouting .... and now I'm probably gonna end up with a vandalized vehicle given it’s a smaller town. Makes me sad that's how he has learned to approach a total stranger old enough to be his grandmother! Lol. I don't understand the aggressive angry thing as a way to approach someone. Not in my DNA.

Too much liberal idea turns into anarchy. Kids should be taught responsibility first before rights can even be discussed.

Arrow Icon

Ok, for sure not a reaction of well-educated people. But I wouldn’t like my picture / video taken from strangers either. You stepped over first IMO.

He sounds crazy! But also, should you be taking video of random people?

Fair point but it was the reaction that amazed me. Guess I think of people at concerts, fairs, beaches and even people who take pics in airports - I see it all the time and never in my life would I go after someone and curse them out assuming they had illl intent

Arrow Icon

But now she has a picture of him when he vandalizes her car. She might have been wrong to take a photo, but teach your children to respect their elders and stop being little pricks.

Arrow Icon

I agree the reaction was much, but you don't take video of random people like that without asking.

I take photos for a hobby. Street photography is a thing. But in such a situation the rider was responding out of fear more than being rational so don’t sweat it. Beyond that, there’s also the idea of people having perverted ideas as to why anyone would take pictures of them. I know that was definitely not the case here but people are not always thinking the best of intentions. Best to be discrete if at all or ask permission. Sorry you had to endure this.

I’ve seen lots of posts about needing 20-30% to move to another firm. Would you say the same for moving to industry or does the “being local” / other criteria offset the need for a high raise?

I’m currently interviewing for a promotion for an executive director role in NYC that I think I have a pretty good chance of getting (assuming the comp discussions go in my favor.) The office is located in Midtown East. My wife and I don’t have any children yet and I am unwilling to live in a 500 ft apt so I’m looking outside the city. I need some suggestions on where to live with keeping my commute under an hour.

I just got promoted. I also just got a job offer. A job offer at an agency I’ve dreamed at working at for years. No real growth in the promotion, just a fancy title but I’ve only been here a year. 😣

Asking for advice (work at pwc), I was promoted mid year to manager and a few months later Covid... I’m very thankful to have a job but given the pandemic the pay bump was nothing to be excited about. With the way things are going, I am anticipating no pay raise next year. I’m being paid as a 4th year senior and trying to wrap my head around if it’s my time to leave the firm and go to another firm for more $$. I don’t work an insane amount of hours but not getting paid for my worth.

It’s that time of year for firms to consider attorney promotions. How has covid affected that? If someone’s hours or origination credit is lower, do you give some leeway and still consider them for promotion? Or is it “business is business” & you apply the same rules as in normal years? I’m curious how other firms are handling.
