I inherited a small team of 3 in Portugal who are great but need a bit of upskilling on client communication (they’re often overly blunt / forward for clients in the US market). What would you recommend doing to improve this?

Training about intercultural communications? Hofstede has written interesting books on the topic

like

Depending on their level, guide them to easily accessible short, focused training videos. Also, give them examples of how to rewrite their message. It helps to be honest about the cultural content of US clients and explain the intent behind what you’re doing

like

Lol “cultural” differences. I hope you’re not talking about forcing them to lie or deceive clients. Typical example, partner selling team as SMEs but having a team with less than a year of that type of experience...collectively.

like

SC, no. They have 10-15 years of experience each. The last thing I want them to do is lie; I want and trust their experience.

Have you considered having a workshop with them where everyone takes turns thinking of how to best present some given info/scenario they’re presented with to a “stakeholder” (rest of group)? Doing a few of these and then showing how you’d do things - and highlighting that they’re all correct, but how US clients might react to each one of their presentations - might help. Would obv need to be thought through a bit, but that’s the first idea that came to mind.

Make them speak in Portuguese and hire a translator from local market

I’ve been seeing this a lot more recently and just had to make a thread about it. I refuse to believe that anyone on here has actually been asked to work a 100hr week. People come onto this thread with legitimate questions and concerns and I just see people trying to scare them out of public which inevitably makes it worse for everyone else who sticks around. Even an 80 hour week is debatable and that is the absolute top. Stop trying to be an attention getter. We work, but not 24/7.

Fellow consultants, I’m struggling and I know complaining about this will only make me look weak but I need to vent. I’ve been working upwards of 60 hours a week since January and I’m tired. If I was doing meaningful work, it would be one thing but most of my days are spent supporting my client with fire drills that end up not mattering. He’s very reactionary and trying to guide him to hold off or think of other approaches doesn’t work. (Cont).

I have two contract offers: One is about Data Management/Quality project for 6 months, the pay is 5000£ per month, the other is product data scientist for an early stage startup based in San Francisco for 4 months, the pay is a lot lot less (less than 1000£ per month). Tbh, I am not a big fan of data management, and I totally see myself doing product analytics which is becoming a hot skill in DS field. Is it stupid to turn down the first offer and accept the second one? I would love some advice

Last round of interview coming up for an analyst/associate role in IB M&A. I have 2 years of experience in Big4 M&A. The previous interview round was very technical, and the last round will be a ”business case”, which lasts about 3.5 hours, including a short introduction, 2-hour preparation, and a presentation. They will provide me the PC. What would you expect an IBD case study to be like? I’m not sure if I have to build everything from scratch or if I can use some ready-made layouts.
