I interviewed for a full-time role (remote) but it was later revealed it would require relocation. I am not wanting to do that and they said I could come on as a contractor. The vendor I would go through provides benefits (medical, dental, PTO). What would be a realistic hourly rate to request/negotiate? I want to get as high as possible but also don’t want to settle for less than what I have to. For context, I am at 165k right now and the role would have been a pay cut to 135k (full-time).

So you are coming on as a contractor in your current home state? Sorry, just trying to understand the situation better

like

No worries at all. Yes, I’d be in my current home state (company is in Arizona, I am in Florida)

like

Would you also mind providing details of the vendor? Also, be careful here because sometimes these vendors make the contractor deduct the benefits from their salary. For example if you are making 200k you will need to deduct 4k for yearly benefits so you only make 196k now.

Triple check that

like

Sure thing. It’s a preferred vendor of the company - they sent me the benefits brochure. From what I can see, there is $0 contribution from contractor for medical and dental (as a single person). They have a 401k option but no match. They provide 25 days PTO (10 holiday, 5 sick days, 10 vacation days - accrued 1 day a month after 60 days of employment).

You may be right and they may not take it as an official contribution but may bake it into the rate.

I would also be considered a W-2 employee (not corp2corp)

like

Significant pay cut you are taking on. Here are my thoughts though. If benefits are included and the offer for FTE was 135k, I would say aim for 140k. I don't think I see you going much higher because all those benefits are getting billed to the company making you more expensive.

If you are paying though for benefits on top of paying premiums for health, dental and vision, I would say 150k maybe even 155k. This would be if benefits are completely voluntary though and like I said if you have to buy benefits on top of paying for all your premiums. If benefits aren't included here though then I think 150 is more than fear. You may end up only getting 145 (135 original to 145 currently) though which should be okay so long as those vacation days are fully paid.

like

Thank you for sharing your viewpoint - very helpful

like

You must really like the role though if you are taking a massive pay cut like this though. Or are you getting out of a toxic work environment something like that?

like

Well if it's a previous client that kinda changes things... That's good, very good honestly!!!

like

Thanks. I think if the benefits are included and I can get 135/hour (maybe a huge stretch) as a w-2 employee with the vendor, it’s a pretty good deal as I would create my own pay raise and cover for any contingencies that may arise.

like

Kind of suspicious honestly....You know them best though so trust your gut on what you think the next step is.... If Accenture is really bad though then definitely leave and reassess after. My opinion only

The equity is based on the current stock price over a 4 year period. Numbers are tweaked slightly.

Does anyone have advice on how to keep track of cases? I am 6 months in at a small med/insurance firm. When we are assigned cases by clients, it's my job to request and organize the medical records. Need help with a very entry-level career decision…

Long-term goal: Product Management/Product Marketing for tech company. 0-1 YOE.

1: CDP Analyst at Accenture, TC ~93 with sign on bonus. No 401k matching first year, 6% after.

2: Sales for CPG (PepsiCo/Unilever/P&G), basically partnering with e-commerce platforms to manage sales and product. Easy job and we get a car on top of TC of $81K (although only 71 of that is base).

I know the numbers are both rookie, but I’m fresh outta college.
