I interviewed for a Chief Creative Director role, spent an hour and a half with the CEO (was supposed to be 1/2 hour) and met 7 senior staff members who loved me—and did spec work the recruiter said blew their minds it was so good... then they never returned another call of mine. Offer never came. Recruiter said she didn’t know that they stopped responding to her too, and that was that. They never did hire a CCO. Weirdest thing. I feel like I dodged a bullet.
Corporate politics. Takes weeks for internal reviews and HR to do their thing.
I had apple trying to recruit me. They tools weeks and even mths to get through the whole process. Total of 14 interviews and got flown out.... hang in there
Btw... Play it cool and assume they’re interested... If you’re tempted to reach out, call your mom instead.
The recruiting process is complicated. The decision makers rarely agree, often have insane schedules and want to compare choices so they feel good about their decision. People get angry at agencies and recruiters but trust me it’s hard. I’m sure they meant it when they want to keep talking but there are more moving parts to the decision especially at your level of hire.
But this is for a VP role... shouldn’t they be more communicative out of respect for the level they are hiring?
People at that level are busy, aren’t you? They have to gather consensus on candidates, they may have been at SXSW, a pitch or client firestorm could have popped up. Stay patient. Stay confident. Let it work itself out.
Maybe none of them liked you
Everything takes forever... is this for an agency or client?
2 week’s isn’t that long. I interviewed for an SVP level that sadly took 3 months. That’s an example of what not to do!
All levels experience the same drag in hiring. At the upper levels, it could take longer, and they might be swamped. If I were you I’d politely check back in, either with the recruiter or the hiring manager.
Ugh. Too many interviews.
I had a 4 month gap between discussions at the place I am now working
i interviewed for 8months for a job once. yes, 8 months and 14 interviews. then they made me wait 2 months to start after i signed. so 10 months from first interview to start date.
