I interviewed for a recruiting coordinator role with a tech start up with no tech background. I was moved to the final interviews and just received my rejection letter today and it states they loved how i interviewed but they are looking for someone with experience in tech..... so what was the point of having me interview for 3 hours when you already knew my background.... very disappointing and discouraging

Don't get discouraged, keep going. They might have realized along the way that someone with experience in that area might be a better fit and it's their issue, not yours.

Thanks 😮‍💨

Did they quiz or test you on your tech skills at all? If so, that may have been the measure they used to determine if you fit the bill. At least they followed up and provided positive feedback. And you got more interviewing experience, which is also valuable. Chin up - something better will come along.

No, its for a role in the talent side of HR. They provided me with a candidate experience assessment which i passed but oh well. Thanks for your input!

Sounds like they are closed-minded about bringing in folks with different experiences. Were probably burned in the past, though that doesn’t make it acceptable. Keep your head up and know that they probably saved you some heartache by rejecting you now

Weird question: so, I come from defense side, but am currently working as a plaintiffs litigator. I have applied to a defense firm and I’m currently in the mix of finalists. Coincidentally, I happen to be opposing counsel in a case staffed by one of the firm’s partners. He and I have a good professional rapport and mutual respect. I don’t think he’s on the hiring committee, so I doubt that he’s aware of my candidacy at his firm. But I think he would be an excellent reference. Can I say anything?

I recently discovered that I am being placed in a band of 1-2 years in role because I made a switch from operations to product. My colleagues are making 20-30% more than I am and we have similar output. Part of the management perspective is that I have adequate stock value and that switching into product means that I do not have my prior experience packaged into my banding. I’m curious how others who made transitions in their career have been able to navigate this?

I have a friend in London that has a fantastic offer from GS - he will also be in HR. But he currently has a pending charge against him that his lawyer is pretty confident that he can get the case thrown out. It’s an assault by beating charge and was done in self defense after the other person trespassed and walked up to my friend in a threatening way.
