I don't think I'd get that into detail with it because it'll just introduce questions that no one was asking. You don't have to acknowledge that it's been a few days and you haven't sent a thank you yet. You don't have to excuse yourself for not having sent one. You don't even need to send one at all. But if you want to, Monday morning/afternoon, just send a quick note that says something like "thank you for taking the time to speak with me last week. I really enjoyed getting to know more about you and the role and look forward to hearing about next steps." Good to go.

This^^^ Do not excuse anything. Do not bring anything negative to their attention. It probably hasn’t even crossed their mind and three days is not long at all. Always go into something like it was your intention from the beginning. In this case, sending the email on Monday. Making any kind of an excuse before you are even hired is a huge red flag.

First off, hope you’re doing ok! In regards to your interview, I don’t think it’s outside the realm of good etiquette to send a thank you on Monday morning for an interview that was mid - last week, it’s only about three work-days ago right? I don’t think I’d mention what actually happened but I think it would be ok to say something like ‘Last week got away from me but I really wanted to take the time to say thank you (etc etc).’

like

Send a note almost exactly like what you just wrote! Honest and well intentioned. “I realized that I hadn’t sent you a note. That’s probably a bad look, so I really apologize. After we had that great conversation something not-so-great happened that scrambled my week. But I wanted you to know I really appreciated the talk we had.”

Ya, don’t acknowledge. Just send the note like normal

Sending a thank you note isn’t a deal breaker.

Agree. I don’t think I’ve ever sent a thank you note and I’ve gotten job offers throughout my career.

F** em

I interviewed and could. Not. Find. The. Email. Addresses. It’s wasn’t simple like first/last. It attached a number to the name. I got the job 😇

All of the suggestions above work. Say your week got away from you. Or don’t. Both good. Just be sincere and thank them for their time. Besides, our weeks probably got away from us too.
