Just curious- how do the big layoffs work? Does management tell each department you need to cut X number of people? & then the partners in tax, audit, TAS, etc. decide which people are let go?

I just got laid off, and I’m not even mad about the job, but they literally didn’t even tell my CD before they let me go, then asked me not to tell anyone before they announced it to the network. I’m sorry, but on what planet am I not hanging up from that call and immediately calling my CD? Which is exactly what I did. They locked me out of my computer so I couldn’t even pass off files, plus it locked me out MID-call where I was being let go. Very professional. Also, my CCO didn’t even know. 🖕🏻

hi everyone! while on set recently, I had an instance where I was assaulted by the head of accounts (drinking was involved, others were in the room who witnessed it happen). I talked to HR about it yesterday and they seem supportive, but what are my options here? Something like this has never happened to me before so I’m not sure what HR will suggest/what I should be looking for. If you’ve ever been in a similar situation, what did your company do afterward?

I’m on the work visa and was just laid off from tax. I honestly hated the busy seasons in the last year and was so miserable bc I had to stay to keep my status so I can get my GC, which was the biggest goal for years. Never thought I would grow to dislike my job. So the lay-off is a blessing in disguise in a way! The funny thing is, jobs I’ve heard back so far that sponsor the visa are in PA...I think for my well-being I should just go home, or am I too big of a coward for giving up my goal?

On H1B you can stay outside the country without pay. Has anyone heard about companies or employees going this route instead of layoffs in case there is absolutely no other option but to cut headcount.
