I joined Fishbowl and Nextdoor when wfh started and bet there are many others who did too. At least for me, Fishbowl is SO much more positive and helpful. I leave Nextdoor more anxious and upset every time I visit it (I just deactivated my account). I guess maybe it’s a demographic difference? Does anyone have a similar or different experience? I feel like it’s a little contrary to what one would expect too since this is anonymous and not local. For context on Nextdoor I’m in LA.

Definitely a demographic difference. ND is full of retirees and stay at home moms tattling on people and starting fights out of boredom. On FB people have careers to worry about while starting fights out of boredom.

like

Agree. Once basic needs are taken care of the mind can wander and it never seems to go anywhere positive.

My bf is on ND, he loves to give me the daily report of what the old hens are up to. Definitely a tattle app. Who’s dog pooped where, who isn’t wearing a mask, who’s gathering in large groups. Blah blah

There is an app called Citizen that notifies you of incidents happening around you. That ones pretty interesting.

like

Yeah I checked out Citizen and the Ring app too. But I realized I was just giving myself unneeded stress haha. We need an app where people anonymously post / report photos and videos others doing acts of service or something. We need more happiness!

WFH has made me realise I loved agency culture more than that industry itself. What can a strategist do after leaving advertising? I adore creativity, the buzz of a team and thinking laterally as well as commercially. The pandemic has made me feel ambivalent about making ads though after ten years in.

I am currently 100% remote and went through training and onboarding 100% remote. I am now looking for a new job and I have found remote work is really competitive. Any tips for how/where to apply? I am applying for content and copy writing roles all around the US as long as the are remote.

My small company was bought out by a corporation. During the acquisition process, the new HR team wants to demote my title from “manager” to “specialist” due to their company requirements. I declined the offer and they changed the offer to grandfather my title in but are still evaluating my salary based on a specialist role. My supervisor (a VP) and our President disagree with this choice but are making no headway with the new HR team. What can we do?

I did what I thought was an informal info chat with a team about an opening. The team lead( Sr. Dir) called my VP who ended up calling me wondering what was happening. Why would the team lead do that? Is there benefit in asking him? Or is this a sign of his working style and what I consider low EQ.

Wow…covid is really over. I live in a rural area where we knew covid was happening but it never really impacted the community or daily life. However when I’d go into the city it was very very obvious there were huge life impacts and fear. I just went into the city for the first time in about 3 months and it’s like covid never happened. It makes me wonder how many other things that have drastically changed (like wfh and hand sanitizer) will go back to normal as people go back to normal.
