I judge people with poorly trained dogs. I mean dogs that bark all the time, jump all over people, try to steal food, etc. I’ve never understood why anyone would get a dog if they’re not willing to train it.

Same reason people are bad parents

The two shows Supernanny and It's Me or the Dog follow this same premise.

Sometimes if you rescue, it’s tough to unteach every little bad habit. We have a good girl but she is handsy and shows love by putting her paws on you. She doesn’t jump, but she comes up on you. We have tried teaching her not to do this, but she gets so excited to see people and she loves humans so much she does it involuntarily. At some point we just added it to the disclaimer. That’s our Maia!

As someone with a fearful, reactive rescue, I have to say that all dogs are trainable. Some of them are just more work than others. After only two/three months of pretty intensive training at home and out and about, my cattle dog went from chasing down and trying to kill our chickens to helping me herd them into the chicken run. We also have a wonderful, happy catahoula leopard mix that we rescued. She doesn't have a lot of behavioral problems, but she too jumped up. Training involved turning our backs with arms crossed/denying her attention when she jumped. It broke our hearts seeing how sad she was at being denied pets and love. But it worked.

I got savaged up and down my arms by someone's dog earlier this year. Puncture wound, emergency room visit, wrist x-ray. She does not train him, and she had told me he'd been attacking her hands lately (I saw the scars). She decided to get him on dog medication instead. I stopped hanging out with her.

I have physical scars 😂 but yes I am thank you

My friends got a rescue who is a sweetheart to humans but has a lot of aggression towards other dogs. They’ve hired multiple trainers and done a ton of training themselves. This is the issue with judging. You don’t know what the backstory is. Maybe they have trained their dog or are currently training. Dogs are trainable but dogs who’ve been through trauma aren’t just going to fall in line

Well duh. Your dog is being physically restrained when brought face-to-face, with the BITING end of another dog that they don't know. You've eliminated the "flight" of the "fight or flight" response. And let's face it, when he meets dogs on a leash, is loose-leash walking happening, or is it a tight leash, so he feels it on his neck? Also, do you want to say Hi to every person you see on the street? Don't let other dogs meet your dogs on a leash. If you need to pass a dog on the sidewalk, step to the side, put your dog into a sit with a loose leash, and wait for the dog to pass. If you want your dog-aggressive dog to meet other dogs on a leash, do a follow walk. Literally just follow the other dog. The butt doesn't bite. Less scary for the dog.

OP - I agree. It's an owner problem!

Dogs can’t be trained, yes, owners, on the other hand, are tough to train. Most dog trainers are training the owners and the dogs.

Obviously meant dogs can** be trained

I agree but also, even with training, no dog is perfect. Just like no human is perfect. They will all have quirks and some bad habits that are really hard to break. We’ve spent a lot of time training our dogs but they each still have some behaviors that we haven’t figured out how to get rid of.

It’s all about the human, not the dog https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/exploration-survival/theres-no-such-thing-good-dog/

Exactly. Hence why I don’t understand why anyone would get a dog and not train it. No dog is going to teach itself to heel. Lol

Once, a M friend said "men are stronger than women, I could dominate you right now" and at the moment I didn't know what to say cause he was in fact bigger and stronger than me. But this is something that bothers me still... I think people in general, regardless of gender, have different abilities and it is not a matter of comparing but rather understanding how best to use them, for yourself and for the society. It pisses me off to know ppl can think like this, and he is actually a good friend

Would you say summaries are as effective for self help books like "the subtle art of giving a fk" and other similar books? I wrote a rec letter for one of my legal assistants for law school right before COVID got bad and we all started working remote. Ever since then, this assistant has seemingly been slacking. There’s only so much I can actually see/review without seriously micromanaging her. I’ve spoken to her about her slacking at least twice and both times she just brushed it off. I want to withdraw my rec letter, but I feel like it’s too late. She is leaving at the end of the summer. Should I just let it be?

I currently work as a personal injury lawyer at a small law firm, 5 years experience, graduated from T30 law school in 2015. Our subject area is pretty niche, and I am looking to branch out. Not big law, but a different subject area, and hopefully something with a better work life balance (have a small child with hopes for more). Open to leaving the law for a compliance/HR/other type position. Am I even marketable for something like that? Am I being unrealistic?
