It's a job not a house.
Congrats on the new job. And I hate to say it, but five minutes after you leave, your former employer will forget about you and move on to the next attorney. It’s business at the end of the day. Just do your best through your last day, be gracious, burn no bridges, and move on with gratitude.
I agree. I left a firm, and came back (by invitation) later. My first day back I asked one of the senior partners (who was also my primary mentor) why they didn’t try to keep me when I left, and he said that they met and decided they could live without me!

I think there’s always that small pang of guilt and anxiety leaving a current employer. I’ve had it even at jobs I hated haha. Once you start your new job and get in the swing of things, it will pass! Best of luck in the new role!
Wait till your first new and improved paycheck hits the bank. Then come back to this feed and tell me if you feel guilty
Don’t feel guilty. They most definitely also benefited from your work. Don’t ever feel guilty for realizing your dream.

This is normal. I have left jobs and always felt sad and guilty and regretful at first. It’s kind of a good thing, means you’re not leaving out of hate/running away from your problems.
Give it a few weeks/months at your new gig and you’ll probably stop having those feelings. It’s your dream job for a reason. Nothing lasts forever but you gained a lot from your current job and you’ll take that with you. Try and maintain your relationships at the current job too by staying in touch with your mentors and friends here.
Exactly!
I have anxiety and feel guilt over the thought of leaving for my dream job! And mostly it’s because the people are just really great where I am now, and I will feel bad about leaving them. But, my dream job pays waaaay more. And will have better exit opportunities if I decide to go in house later.
GUILTY?! I wish lol I can’t wait until the day I can say goodbye to my current employer
Congratulations on landing your dream job!
You can feel nostalgic. Guilt means you did something wrong. You did not. Go forth and enjoy your dream job. This is work - not family. You don’t owe them more than doing a good job and giving reasonable notice, even if they’re awesome. Also, NEVER announce you are leaving a job and then let them bribe you to stay with more money. That doesn’t end well. (Law is my second career and I’ve seen this go badly.) You’ve made a good choice to pursue your dream job and not let them convince you to stay. Enjoy!!!
Just hang in there until you start your new job. Once you do, it will only be a few weeks before the new job feels normal and the old job feels like the past.
