I did the same thing: started solo traveling when I felt really low about the lack of relationships about myself. Honestly, had I not taken those two years of my life to allow myself to do that, idk if I’d be the person I am today. Being alone really makes you learn to examine yourself and who you are, what you want and need in your life, and ultimately learn to love yourself first. It was definitely awkward at first doing meals out alone but sitting at the bar or counter helps. I learned to savor the moment as I was just enjoying the moment and the vibe and tbh most people are absorbed in their own worlds. They won’t care that you’re by yourself.

I haven’t, but came here to suggest a) if you haven’t skied before to definitely take a lesson and b) even if you’re experienced, if you’re looking to meet new people a lesson is a great way to do that. Have fun!

Honestly I think we should all get together and do a retreat. It would be funnnn!

I always go on ski trips alone. Fine alone while there. Hot tub alone. I always meet other people who also wanted to be there.

I love doing things alone like that! Eat at the bar in restaurants. You'll meet people and the people watching in Aspen is amazing. Take a group ski lesson and meet people. Staff at the mountain will have great ideas and be super friendly.

I miss solo travel. I’ll live vicariously through you OP, enjoy!

Yes eating alone can be really nice! You can actually savor your meal or choose to engage with your server/bartender. If you are self conscious you can bring a book or read an article on your phone or just sit and people watch. Even when I traveled alone I used to always end up making a friend along the way and there is always less pressure with a new friend compared to traveling with a friend becase you don't have to make sure your friend is having fun on the trip and you can enjoy it for yourself!

Thank you D4, that will be lovely. I am in that part of the world too so it is definitely possible :))

I’m honestly super jealous — Aspen solo sounds like a dream. Ski the trails you want for the length you want, talk to fun people on the lifts, relax back at the hotel. Sounds like such great R&R

When are you going? I have been going there every year since childhood and it’s my favorite place. I spend the days alone since I am a different type of skier (back country) than the rest of my family, and it’s the most serene experience. Last year, everywhere was closed, and I am not sure which businesses have come back since, so it’s rough to give specific recommendations. Let me know if you have any questions otherwise!!

Wow!!! Lovely, I have actually been to Matshuhisa and Monarch and I have enjoyed every part of the experience - looking forward to try the other two recommendations 🙏🏻! Thank you very much!
