Daytona stainless!
Wow! Ceramic?!
The watch is the first thing I look for on a person. Rolexes are great timepieces and I think they don’t show real luxury anymore - just solid taste and good investment sense. If you rock up wearing a Patek or a Lange and Sohne then you might be punching above your weight :)
I don’t disagree with you but the vast majority of people do not think this way. A lot of my clients would react the same to a Rolex as they would to a Lamborghini (they’d think it’s a ridiculous over priced show off toy)
Pro tip: very few people care or notice. Wear it as often as you like. You’d be surprised how few people are aware of people wearing expensive / fashionable accessories or clothes. It usually is other watch people who take notice
This is usually true for most watches, except Rolex because it's much more recognizable.

It’s new
Wear it as often as you’d like! It’s not a two tone or precious metal piece (which could be perceived as too flashy), yet it’s the most coveted sports stainless steel model available. Watch enthusiasts will appreciate it, and everybody else will just see it as another nice watch (from far, nobody will even know it’s a Rolex - the design isn’t as common or knocked off as a Submariner, for example).
Congrats! What did you buy?
I wear my GMT pretty much every day. If at work I’ll leave it under my cuff and I might wear a different watch if I’m wearing short sleeves instead of a dress shirt. Particularly on site with clients.
If you are concerned about showing off, it depends more on the clients than the frequency. Eg, wearing it every single day to a banking client in NYC could be less offensive than wearing it to manufacturing company in Kansas just once.
I intentionally wear department store suits to certain clients in order to avoid being seen as an “outsider."
D2: do you assume that everybody has precisely the same expectations for appropriate dress codes?
Not sure. How do I know if it’s ceramic?
What’s the date of manufacture?
I don’t have it with me. Can look later for the exact date if it says it
Where did you purchase it? New DaytonaCs are nearly impossible to buy from a dealer, and outside of dealers, new models go for nearly 2x msrp
I know! I was on a waiting list for ever. It was from a friend of mine’s “guy” I think it’s actually worth more than I paid for it
That’s awesome. If you paid retail then it’s absolutely worth more. Used ones are going for at least $20k these days (for the non-initiated, retail price is $12.5 but there’s so much demand and so little supply that they’re virtually impossible to purchase at that price)
Can you show a pic?
ceramic Daytona is an absolute head turner. The most coveted Rolex at this moment. Congrats and enjoy.
K1 I was thinking exactly that! Well it’ll be fun to try it out in different social situations
Social signaling has many levels. https://www.lifestyleasia.com/sg/style/watches/5-grand-complication-watches-pinnacle-watchmaking/
Your right: some people respond to watches purely based on functionality and personal emotion, and would wear them happily as a castaway on a desert island. What % of the market do you think this represents?
Life is too short even you live to 100. Wear it as much as YOU want. You are an MD for crying out loud. You earned the right to wear it EVERYDAY!
