Tax manager 1. I presume what op is going with is having missed a sig amount of time and not being in the market - it would take time to build back up to that level. I didn't read anything like wanting a free pass. Also - I know tone of conversation was completely paraphrased but I thought we had transitional help for folks coming back to work from maternity leave. And basically you sound like a prick and I hope you don't work at ey
@Senior Manager1 ✊🏽
I said I have/ will be missing 4 months and was told I still need to hit $3M. I was hoping something on the lines of 'how can we help you transition back'. Looks like I shouldn't have expected that. I was also told that we are very senior manager heavy so we all need to hit the numbers or work 60hrs a week to get managed revenue high. How did people who came back from maternity leave handle such unrealistic expectations?
So sorry to hear - this partner is a douchefuck. I'd totally go to HR. I hope your outcome is a positive one and congratz on the new born!
Year 1 goal is $2mn not $3.5mn you assholes. And the target is more of a punishment than anything else.
Tax Manager 1, I am definitely not looking for a free pass. I wasn't expecting the first thing my partner talks to me after coming back was this. Nothing on the lines of how is the baby, how to help you with transition etc. I also think the goals specifically with numbers needs to be adjusted if someone is out on maternity or short term disability. Isn't that why we look at effective utilization and not full utilization. And just so you know I have been a 4 or 5 consistently and haven't had one day of unassigned time during my years here. This is just so you know if I was looking for a free pass this wouldn't be possible. My thoughts here were more on lines of don't give maternity leave and treat people differently as if they should have not utilized it and come back earlier.
HR violation
TM1 - I think comp does get prorated when you take that much time off so it seems reasonable to expect metrics to be adjusted as well. The partner is a dick.
You think that because you are back from leave you're goals should be cut? Are you willing to give back some of your salary?

It's all about the $$ OP. The partner gives jack about your family. You have to step up and protect your family time. Parents at all levels in the CPA business have to deal with this. I do.
How is that an HR violation? You're back from leave and firm has high expectations. Having a child is a personal choice.
I just think it's a case of a unrealistic partner. No HR issues though. SM should say well I need some time to reacclimatize and that goal is not realistic for my situation. Not sure what else you can do.
I had to take short term disability for a personal medical issue for several weeks. I was told that my hours goal was adjusted to reflect that, and I was stunned and happy. That allowed me to hit my hours and still get comp adjustment as appropriate. I'm sorry your experience was so bad OP. I really hope your transition back goes well and that the partner was just having a bad day and didn't mean to take it out on you. Hang in there.
TM2 - are we robots? PPEDs should plan better
It almost looked like this Partner wanted to scare me away or overwhelm me so I go quit. And this Partner was someone who was very supportive prior to my maternity leave.
It's funny because you always hear that everyone is replaceable but then why does any partner act like OP doesn't get to take maternity leave without making up for lost revenue? Meaning you can have the time but still have to hit same revenue mark so there's no loss in production.
@EY 2, I think we are on the same side? My point was OP should be able to take time off.
Hey friends, times are tough. We are all feeling it. OP was lucky to get the unvarnished truth. What regionand service line, OP?
