I just found out my boyfriend has a 50% chance at having Huntington’s disease- a rare disease that would turn his brain to mush starting at 40y/o, making him incapable to work, think, function. I’m 25 y/o. Is it selfish to ask him to get tested? I really value family and having my future children having a father.

Suddenly my problems don’t seem so bad...

I’m sorry to hear that

Have him take out a life insurance policy BEFORE being tested. He will be untouchable after.

Sorry to hear this

like

I think it’s fair to ask

like

If you were thinking of marrying him, that’s a different story. But you’re only 25!!! When I was 25 I thought I knew exactly who I was and what I needed... and then my prefrontal cortex fully developed and I got more life experiences and now I’m soooooooo glad I’m not with the guy I was with then. (actually I barely remember who it was?)

like

I dont think it’s an unfair request

You should 100% ask him to get tested, Huntington’s disease is one that has an extremely high chance of being passed down to any children you may have together.

Son’s 2nd birthday coming up.. thinking of opening a custodial account for him and buy a couple hundred dollars worth of a SP500 index fund and continue doing that on subsequent birthdays. Is it a good birthday gift? I understand the drawbacks of a custodial account (losing control once the kid grows up and it affects financial aid etc). I think it will be cool for him to see all the purchase dates fall on his birthdays and teach him about long term investment

What are parents paying for baby sitters these days? Wife and I going out tonight for about 3-4 hours and have a local college student babysitting our toddler daughter tonight. Low-medium cost of living city and daughter will be asleep for most of the time. We’re thinking $15-20 per hour and make sure there are plenty of snacks around. Appropriate?

Like me, you have dated a million times and yet can’t seem to get it right. If you have ever wondered, whether in silence or out loud, “what’s wrong with me?”, this book is for you. I’ve heard a million times that communication is the key to a successful relationship. However, nobody taught me what effective communication is. How many conversations have I had in my head that lead to a conclusion without ever involving the other party? Countless! If this resonates, this book is for you.

So I had a coding interview recently and have decided that the format was actually pretty unfair for people with ADHD. Essentially you have to code the answer on a screen shared with the interviewer whilst explaining it and listening to the interviewer - all of this is anxiety provoking and distracting meaning I underperformed on quite a simple coding task. It felt a bit like asking a person who has dyslexia to compete in a spelling bee rather than a written test.

Hey friends, since we have a lot of new joiners to the group I thought maybe we should share any advice we got/wished we got when we started our journeys.
Mine are:
1) a good diet changes how you perform at the gym and is key for aesthetics
2) master the form of your exercise. Form > weight always
3) Follow a structured program. The worst structured program will have more benefits than no structure
4) consistency > perfection
5) listen to your body
6) have fun with your exercise!

Hello, I recently joined Deloitte, want to understand which health insurance is the best for my current needs. We are expecting a baby and due date is late December.

I used to have anthem blue cross blue shield from my previous employer with zero individual/family deductible so never overwhelmed with payments after Dr appointments. Of course premium was on high side but still had a peace of mind.

Any suggestions in picking up right insurance plan? Thanks in advance.

I’ve had insurance on my six pets for the last four years, but my younger three, outside of yearly shots (which only goes to the deductible), haven’t had any visits (knock on wood) in the last two. Table A escalated to a fight and had to be both separated and asked to leave. Who is right?

What is the best way to attract a new mate? I got out of a 7 year relationship (he was cheating on me for half of it) and I’m so confused on where to even start. But I’ve seen girls that are objectively more unattractive than me have mates. So it must be a confidence issue? Those girls seem to glow while I am so sad. Or it’s the guys I go on dates with?

Going through a rough patch in relationship of 3yrs almost… we are both super independent to the point where we do a lot separately. (I.e he will go golf , I’ll go ride my horses.). But the things we DO do together he always invites his brother/family, like when we went to a day ranch trip the other day. Also, when he doesn’t want to do something I want to do, he just doesn’t do it whereas I compromise.

I’m just feeling a bit conflicted and lonely right now and don’t know how to talk to him.
